People soon started to arrive. John came down to greet me right before the show started.
"I hope you enjoy the music as much as we do."
And he sealed his words with an unexpected kiss and a wink and then proceeded back onto the stage. I stood there, thinking,"that did not just happen".But it did. And unfortunately, Jimmy saw it, too. He began to play anyway.
----
The concert was over pretty quickly. But it was amazing. Even though I saw them practice beforehand, it seemed even more powerful when there was a crowd around. They didn't make any mistakes- or at least not that I had noticed- which surprised me because new bands usually do.
John once again approached me, took me by the hand, and led me into a back room.
"Just thought you'd like to get away from all the fuss of the crowd," he said, closing the door to mask the various noises from the crazed fans and also to give us privacy.
"Thank you. I don't really appreciate being surrounded be drunken or high people." I answered him.
"So, I guess you've never drank?"
"Nope."
"Or done drugs?"
"Never."
He didn't say anything but only smiled and sat down next to me. He put his hand on my lap and looked me right in the eyes.
"Then I guess I'm not the guy for you," he said with a smirk.
I didn't know what to say, so I just laughed it off and hoped he would laugh, too. But he didn't.
An awkward silence filled the air and I started to sweat nervously. Neither of us made a noise. I wanted to look away, but his eyes kept pulling me in and I had no chance of escape.
He gently placed his hand on my cheek and traced my jawline until he met my chin. Then he put the other hand behind my head and tugged a bit on my hair and pulled me in for a kiss.
A spark ignited between us and I could feel electricity pulsing through my body as our kiss grew more passionate.
I really didn't want to kiss him- well, I did. But I knew somehow my dad would find out and probably kill me, him, or both of us.
Without warning, the door swung open and in the doorway stood Robert with an eager look on his face.
"Stop whatever the hell you're doing because I need to tell you something." Robert said excitedly.
John sighed and got up to leave with Robert as I just sat there and watched them leave. Then I heard John start to freak out, his words echoing through the corridor. All I got was," I can't believe I left her in that room."
He came back and apologized for leaving me behind. But I really didn't care. I was still recovering from our kiss.
----
We walked back to the main stage and Bonzo and Jimmy were sitting and talking to a man whom I didn't notice. He must've come later in the concert because he didn't look very familiar to me.
"Hello, I'm Andrew." he smiled and shook everyone's hands.
"So, tell them what you told me," Robert pleaded.
"Well," Andrew started,"you guys have got the sound I've been looking for for so long. I think you guys are going to make it big. I'm a producer, so I'd like to have a contract with you guys. I can see it now. Millions of fans, money- anything you want. And I've already talked to your manager Peter. He thinks that it's a great idea. So, what do you say?"
Everyone exchanged glances with each other and then the band all huddled up to give their opinions. They were whispering, but they weren't very good at it. I could hear every word they had to say.
Then they all got up and walked over to Andrew. Robert stuck out his hand and smiled,"you've got a deal, sir. It's going to be a pleasure going business with you."
He chuckled but then stopped. He craned his neck to look around Robert and stared right at Jimmy.
"I'm sorry," Andrew started," I don't mean to be a bother. But are you James Page?"
Jimmy looked surprised and then answered,"yes, I am. Why do you ask?"
"It's just that I was a big fan of yours in your Yardbirds days. You played great then and you're still getting better. Keep it up."
Then he looked over at me," and is this beautiful young lady your young lady, James?"
Jimmy looked embarrassed and then answered sheepishly," No, that's Jonesy's girl. She's just a friend of mine."
"Well, this 'Jonesy' man is a very lucky guy."
I blushed a little but felt bad. By then, Jimmy had isolated himself to the corner and faced the wall. Andrew left and the rest of the band went to pack up, so I decided to talk to Jimmy.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"To be quite truthful- no, Lou, I'm not doing well at all."
"Look, I know how you feel. I've had that guy that I wasn't able to get, no matter how much I tried."
Jimmy glared at me," but you have a guy now."
And with that, he got up and left. I felt so bad, but yet I didn't because he was acting like a child. But I knew that deep down inside, he was having a real problem, and not about me. Something more important to him than that.
