I walked into the apartment, not bothering with my bags, just throwing them aside as I flopped back on the couch. Wes dropped down next to me a moment later, just as tired. We left his dad's house after Thanksgiving weekend at around six, and now it was midnight. I didn't even feel like walking to bed. I sunk down, curling into the couch as Wes pulled my lower half into his lap, lazily running his hands over my thighs.
"I was thinking," he trailed off as he groped my backside.
"Really? Since when?"
He shook my hip. "Shut up and listen."
I grumbled under my breath but said no more as I waited for him to continue.
"I was thinking about how we haven't spent a Christmas together."
"What about it?" I looked back at him from over my shoulder.
"That's it. We're coming up on our three-year and our fourth Christmas and we still haven't spent one together."
"This really bugs you?" I sat up on my side, furrowing my brows in concern.
"Of course, it does. That's like the biggest holiday in my family and I want to spend it with you."
"I didn't know that," I defended. Living in Rhode Island meant I spent as much time as I wanted with Wes, and more now that I lived with him. Nearly every holiday and most of the summer was spent in Rhode Island. I didn't realize he wanted me here even more. Wes and I may not have spent Christmas together but we had our own Christmases celebration each year. We'd go out the day before I left for California and buy a little tree to decorate, go have a nice dinner then watch old Christmas movies and exchange gifts. It wasn't the ideal way to spend my Christmas break with my boyfriend, but I thought it was enough for him. "I thought you liked our Christmas night."
"I like it, but it's not the same. It's weird walking into my family Christmas parties without you."
"Okay," I smiled and sat up, straddling him, "that's an easy fix." I grinned. "I won't go home this Christmas and we can have a real Christmas."
Wes' eyes sharpened as he glared down at me in his lap. My smile faltered, getting the complete opposite reaction of what I was expecting. I gasped as he grabbed my hips, pulling me from him and setting me on the couch.
"You're unbelievable," he growled angrily as he stood up and started to walk away.
My chest tightened as I watch with wide eyes as he walked away angrily. "Wes!" I called anxiously, scrambling from the couch to follow him. "Wes, what's wrong? What'd I-"
"You're still running." He spun around and I almost ran into his chest. I looked up at him with wide eyes.
"Yeah, after you because you're stomping away angrily."
"Because you're still running from me!"
I stumbled over my words as I took a step back frowning at him, my shock dissipating as he continued to shout at me, quickly replacing itself with impatience. "I was happy to cancel my flight home for Christmas but if you're going to fight me for no apparent reason, then screw you, I'll take my god damn mother over this." I looked him up and down with my hand on my hips. I wouldn't rather go home and spend Christmas with my mom over a Christmas with Wes but in the moment, I might as well have.
"No reason?" He huffed, sticking his chin up.
"Yeah!"
"You didn't even consider taking me with you. I want to meet your family, Vienna!"
