You know that ridiculous saying that everything happens for a reason? For the life of me , I couldn't understand why this man was here. He already ruined my day yesterday and I definitely won't give him the glory by letting him have the satisfaction.

" Miss Mitchell, I'd like you to meet Mr Mendes. He is looking to be a client of ours and since you're the first one here, would you like to take on his account?".

Everything inside me was screaming no no no no no no!!!
' IS THIS A JOKE?'. In as much as I wanted to blurt that out, I couldn't.

"Of course. I'll be right back. Let me put my things in the office and I'll meet you in the boardroom in five minutes?". I asked as if I hadn't seen this man a day in my life. He nodded and I turned on my heel to excuse myself. I walked away and rolled my eyes so hard, it shocked me that they weren't stuck at the back of my head. I put down my things and took a long hard swig of my coffee before looking at myself in the mirror. I composed myself, put on the most proffesional face u can imagine and walked to the boardroom. I pushed the glass door to find them laughing with two glasses,  quarter filled with scotch. It was almost eight in the morning. Who drinks this early?

Brushing my judgemental thoughts aside, I decided to be proffesional and sat down directly opposite him. No expression from on my face, I put my glasses on and interlocked my fingers looking at him. He looked slightly uncomfortable in his seat, as he should be. He looked intrigued and slightly embarrassed all at the same time. Just before I could utter a word, Mr Sinclair, my boss , excused himself to take a conference call in his office.

" I'm sorry I have to leave but I'm leaving you in the hands of Me Mitchell. She is one of the best at the firm and is more than capable of taking Care of you. "

Mr asshole. I'm sorry........ Mr Mendes thanked him and once Mr Sinclair was out of the room, his attention shifted back to me, my face still emotionless .

" So.....What can I do for you Mr Mendes? ".

He seemed shocked that I was going on like he was a stranger. I mean he was. The sight of him just left a bad taste in my mouth and if pretending I had never met him was the only way to get through this, so be it.

" Well. I'm new in the city so I wanted to make sure that my businesses are well taken care of.
" I see. So what kind of insurance would you like? Were you previously insured with another company in your previous location?".

" Yes. With another company. But I was told that your company is better so I opted for this one. "

" I see. And did you bring with you copies of your business registration as well as your previous insurance information? "

Maybe it was the scotch. Or maybe he actually felt like a dickhead for what he did yesterday but he started stuttering a little bit.

" I didnt carry them with me today but maybe you can look at them and finish the discussion.... let's say tonight over dinner?".

Hell would have to freeze over before I'm spending any kind of time with this man after work.

" Oh no!" I said shaking my head while speaking in a sarcastic tone.
" God forbid the chef adds a dash of butter, we wouldn't want he'll to break loose and people to get fired. "

He was taken aback by my comment. His eyebrows produced a confused look on his face. A part of me was glad I made him feel uncomfortable. It's what he deserved.

" Oh. Okay. I'll ask my assistant to arrange the necessary paperwork and schedule another meeting. Is that okay with you?"

" Sure. " I said as he handed me his business card. He said he would be in touch. We shook hands and he walked away as I stood up to organise the paperwork. As he got to the door, he turned around leaning on it.

" Oh and Ms Mitchell?" He said as I took my glasses off and shifted my attention to him.

             " Yes?"

" I'm really sorry for everything yesterday. "

               I couldn't help but chuckle.

" Are you genuinely sorry because you are or is it because I'm the person who has been assigned to handle your accounts?"

         He looked confused.

        " A little bit of both I guess. "

I shook my head. I neither accepted nor declined his apology. I just ended the statement with " Sure. "

And with that, he walked away. Out of 7 billion people in this world, I'm stuck working with him. I got out of the office and found my colleagues filling up the building. I buried myself in work not wanting to think about what occurred earlier this morning.
