My Pet Demon

Chapter 11

"I'm sorry."

The golden sun shone brightly above, its blazing rays hit the ground mercilessly. It was already 12.30 in the afternoon. Rin and Rei were walking under the rooftops of the buildings in the city in the shade. Currently, there were three shopping bags on Rei's left hand, another two shopping bags and two grocery bags on her right. Her head was bent down, hybrid eyes casted to the pavement they walk on.

The navy blue hair teen was in front of her, hands tucked deep into his pockets, trying his best to avoid and ignore the dirty glares pedestrians were giving him for not being a 'gentleman', instead letting a girl carry all the bags. It wasn't his fault, actually. Rei had felt so guilty she got into trouble and he had saved her she practically forced Rin to let her do all the heavy work. And on top of that, she wouldn't stop apologising.

With a fustrated sigh, Rin turned around and took the bags away from her. She blinked, then frowned at him, opening her mouth to resist when Rin whispered in her ear: "I don't want to be an embarressment."

Rei raised an eyebrow questioningly, but when she realised the glares and whispers spreading among the crowd, especially the women population. To avoid further attraction, she gave up and trailed behind him quietly.

Then, a growl interupted the silence between them. Rin turned around to see Rei looking at her growling stomach. She hugged it. "I'm hungry," she whined. Rin looked at his watch. "Yeah, we should eat already. Come on! Follow me." He snaked his arm around hers since his hands were full and pulled her along.

Poor Rei couldn't do anything but get dragged along with his inhuman strength and speed.

Rin braked in front of a cafe along the noisy streets and went in. This was his favourite Japanese Cafe. He was sure she would like it too. It was a friendly looking café with only a few customers inside. They went in the shop and were greeted by mouth-watering aroma. Just qs they sat down at an empty place, a deep voice called: "Yo! Rin! How nice to see you again!"

They turned to see a guy in his 50s walking towards them, a hand balancing a tray filled with delicious food.  He had silver hair, a bushy white mustache and lips that curved into an enthusiastic smile. He was dressed in the restaurant's uniform, Rei noted. Rin returned a smile equally enthusiastic. He raised a hand. "Yo! Uncle! Nice to see you again too!" They seemed to know each other well.

"What's been keeping you? And ah, is she your girlfriend? Never knew you had such good taste!" At those words, Rin turned a little flustered. "No, you've got it wrong! She's just a friend who's never been here before, so I decided to..." He was cut off by a hard slap on his back. "I was just kidding! But seriously, it's time you get yourself laid. Youth won't last long, you know." He chuckled.

"Yeah, I got it. Anyway, Rei, this is Mr. Takaoki, the owner of this shop which is best in Japan! Uncle, this is Rei, my..." he hesitated. "Close friend." At those words, Rei bowed slightly. Takaoki gave a hearty laugh. "Well, nice to meet you. Anyone who's a friend of Rin's is a friend of mine! So, what do you want to eat?" Rin grinned. "Serve us your best ramen and green tea!" Takaoki laughed, the warm twinkle in his eye never fading. "Right away!"

After Takaoki left, Rei asked: "Rin, what is a 'girlfriend'? Why does everyone keep saying that to you?" Remembering in each store they went and what the sales clerks said, Rin sighed. "Girlfriend of someone means a boy's lover, before marriage or during teens age." Rei 'oh-ed'. "There's so many things here we don't have in Gehenna. Either that, or I was a wolf for so long that I can't remember anything human." Rin swore he saw a faint pink tinged her pale cheeks.

Soon, the food arrived. Rin mumbled: "Ittadakimasu" and dug in. He expected a reaction from Rei but none came. He looked up and saw Rei clumsly fumbling with her chopsticks. He mentally facepalmed. He got up from his seat and went over to her. He took her hand in his as he leaned over her. He could smell a vanilla flavoured shampoo on her hair. It was sweet and nice. Gently, he guided her fingers to hold the chopstick properly and patiently taught her to eat with it. Rei soon got the hang of it and Rin left her to eat herself.

Rei carefully clipped the noodles with the chopsticks and ate it. Rich flavour burst in her mouth as she gasped in surprise. Rin grinned as he saw her dug in, wolfing down the whole bowl.

Stomachs full, they exited the shop. "To where now?" Rei asked Rin. Rin grinned, revealing his sharp teeth. "Arcade!" He said excitedly and fist pumped. Rei wasn't sure if she knew what was it but followed him along.

When they reached the arcade, game booths glowed in the darkness and people, mostly teenagers were seen playing games. Rin went to purchase the card while Rei looked around. A booth for race cars was empty, so she wandered over there to examine it better. She ran her hand over the steering wheel, feeling the texture of it. A deep voice startled her: "Hey, pretty! What're you doing here." A  hand clamped on her shoulder.

She whirled around to see two average teen boys. The one with his hand oh her shoulder smirked and leaned down to sniff her. She backed away in disguised, slapping his hand away with a scowl. What's up with boys today? They won't leave me alone.

The second one licked his lips hungrily. "You know, if you're alone, we can give you a nice time." He purred, reaching a hand to carress her hair when a strong grip stopped him. Bright blue eyes, now narrowed in anger, glared at them. "Back off, she's mine." Rin snarled at them. Both of them chuckled. "Hey, take it easy, man! We were just fooling around." They turned to leave, but not before winking at her. Rin growled. Rei huffed. "Why do people always pick on me?"

"Maybe because you attract too much attention," he replied, eyes still trained on the two figures. Then, Rei realised that Rin had wrapped an arm around her and pushed her close to him. She pushed him off, ignoring the feeling of comfort in his arms. "Ignore them. When I reach my limit, I'll be sure to give them hell." She sat down on the red chair. "Now teach me how to play this thing."

A few minutes later, both of them were furiously pressing the pedals, screams of determine and laughter erupting from their throats until it went sore. They moved on from booth to booth, Rin besting Rei at each one. Each time he won, Rei would stuck her tongue out at him and Rin would give her the stink eye. They finally came to the booth where you control the claw to pick out a plushie. Rei tried at it a few times. She continued to try to fish for a certain wolf in blue, but keep failing. "You suck at this," Rin commented, earning an eyeroll. "Well, since Mr. Thinks he's Awesome here says that, you give it a try." She crossed her arms. Rin grinned. "And if I win?" "Then you win." "What? No presents or anything?" "Nope." "You meanie." "No, I'm Rei."

Rin rolled his eyes and focused. With one snap, he pulled out the plushie that had caught Rei's eye. He took it out of the slot and handed it to her. "There you go." She stared at him, surprised. Slowly, she accepted it and hugged it close to her chest as they exited the store. But something else caught Rei's eyes.

A figure with hooded face stood in the middle of the crowd. It's familiar blood red eyes bore into Rei's hybrid ones. They locked eyes for a few seconds, then the figure turned and walked away. "Wait!" Rei rushed after the figure.

Those red eyes...

I KNOW I HAVEN'T UPDATED IN LIKE A YEAR PLEASE FORGIVE ME I HAD EXAMS AND I DON'T WANNA DIE PLUS MY STUPID BRAIN RAN OUT OF IDEAS I'M SO SORRYYYY.

My exam had finally ended yesterday and since it will be a school holiday for two weeks, I promise to update not so soon later.

Ps: Did anyone watch Attack on Titan Season 2? The climax is so nerve-racking. Levi didn't get much screen time buy I hope I get to see everyone: Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Levi, Hanji and Erwin fight together soon. And who knows when Season 3 will be releasing? (Hopefully not another 3 years)
