My Pet Demon

Chapter 2

When they reached their destination, the driver that had taken them there stopped at a safe place where they could observe what happened. Trees had fallen and the road was cracked badly, leaving pieces of earth and rocks jutting out from the bottom. Vehicles were overturned and blue fire crackled everywhere. It looked as if there had been an earthquake there.
"Woah, what happened exactly? Rin muttered, wide eyed. Yukio turned to the driver and asked him the same question. "I'm not sure myself. All I know is to bring you guys here." He had replied.
"Well then, let's find out!" Rin said and alighted from the car. "Nii-san, wait-" Yukio had barely finish his warning when a blue fireball whizzed out from nowhere and crashed near them. The car rocked from the impact but unfortunately, Rin was closer to the fireball and was sent tumbling to the other side.
Rin groaned in pain and barely got up when a second fireball crashed right beside the car. This time, the car overturned and crashed against a tree.
"Yukio!!"
Rin sighed with relief when he saw his brother climbing out of the car while dragging an unconsious driver. Rin quickly went to help him. They both hid in an alleyway.
"You alright?" "Yeah, just a few cuts. Mr. Driver had hit his head and passed out."
After they lay the driver at a safe corner, Yukio peeked out. He saw a few senior exorcist hiding behind overturned vehicles armed. Quietly, he crawled over to them, followed by Rin.
"What's going on?" "Apparently, a demon has turned up. It's wrecking the whole place. We can't get hold of it. It's too dangerous."

THUD THUD THUD

GRRRRRR!!!

The exorcist gasped. "It's here." Yukio and Rin looked out from behind the vehicle.
Two long white tails swayed behind gracefully. A pair of yellow and blue orbs glared menacingly. White flames surrounded it. With every step it took, white smoke came up from the ground. The creature's was covered with white fur as pure as snow. Under it's both eyes was a long red triangle tattoo at each side. Long claws growed on its paws, body twice or thrice the size of a human. It was a magnificent white wolf.

Well, it would be even more magnificent if it wasn't covered with blood and wounds.

"Shoot it down!" The exorcist yelled as everyone fired. Some bullets hit the wolf. It howled in pain as they kept firing. Rin sat there watching the exorcists at work.

Stop it!
Leave me alone!

"Wait, what...?" Rin muttered confused. As the bullets fired, a girl's voice screamed in his head.

I said, leave me ALONE OR YOU'LL REGRET IT!!

The wolf howled and swept its tails. "Run!!" The exorcist yelled as the tails reached the vehicles. Some unlucky exorcist were hit and were knocked unconsious.
Rin was still shocked as they took cover behind another car. "What...was that voice? Could it be...?!" Rin's eyes widened in realisation. He hopped over the vehicle and walked towards the wolf.
"What? Nii-san!!!" Rin ignored Yukio's cries. The wolf stopped what it was doing and glared at the half-demon. Even the exorcists had hold fire. Rin stood his ground and stared at it.
"Nii-san! What are you doing?! Get away from it!" Yukio screamed. Rin looked back and grinned at him. "Don't worry. I won't attack it. Even if it attacks me, I'll just whack it with this!" He pointed at his sword. Yukio facepalmed. "That baka...what is he doing?"
Rin turned back and faced the wolf. It growled dangerously at his presence and slowly walked forward, leaving a trail of blood behind it. But Rin just smiled friendly.
"You won't harm me-no, kill anyone right?"
The wolf stopped in its tracks.
"You don't wish to harm anyone, you are forced to as self defense, right? Then we are on the same boat. My name's Okumura Rin, half demon, nice to meet cha!"
Rin stretched his and smiled dorkly. The wolf just stared at him curiously. After a while, it finally but hesitantly reached its snout out and sniffed his hand. All the exorcist lowered their weapons, amazed by Rin. Yukio smiled secretly. He's just like you, otou-san.
Suddenly, the wolf opened it's mouth and Rin saw blue fire gargle at the back of it's throat. His eyes widened.
"Nii-san! Get back!"
A few bullets were shot. Rin spun around and stumbled to the side, causing him to be in the way of the bullets. He shut his eyes and waited for searing pain to shoot through his body.
But all he felt was something warm and soft leaning against his body.
He reopened his eyes to see that the wolf in front of him with new bullet wounds. It slumped against Rin as blood seeped through Rin's uniform. It's hybrid eyes were drooping slowly before it passed out due to the loss of blood. It had saved Rin by protecting him and taking the shots even though it knew the risks. Rin's eyes widened at the thought.
"Nii-san!"
Immediately, all the exorcists gathered around them. They dragged the wolf away from Rin harshly. Yukio put a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Nii-san, are you alright?"

"WHO SHOT THE FVCKING BULLET?!"

All the exorcists stared at Rin in disbelief.  Yukio tried to calm Rin down. "Nii-san, if they hadn't shot..."
"IF THEY HADN'T SHOT THEN IT WOULDN'T END UP TRYING TO PROTECT ME BY RISKING ITS OWN LIFE!!"
"Nii-san! Calm down! We are not gonna kill it!"
"IT'S GONNA DIE FROM BLOOD LOSS IF YOU KEEP TREATING IT HARSHLY! AT LEAST GIVE IT SOME DECENT TREATMENT OR SOMETHING!!"
"NII-SAN!"
Finally, Rin had calmed down. But he was still mad about it. He turned away and said coldly: "Let's go." And walked away.
