That's when Mr Card shouted my name once more, catching my attention from the conflict going on in my head. I grumbled and replied "okay sir, won't happen again..." total lie, just a good way to get them off your back. He scoffed and said "Riley, you have a new partner next to you! And class!.." he said raising his voice more as he said 'Class' and gestured for the new girl to stand as I sat down. She blushed, a deep red as he announced "class, this is jess! She's a new student here, make her feel welcome and show her around!" he smiled brightly and sneered towards me before turning around to write some questions on the board as the girl next to me sit down. She was still red in the face from blushing but she had a natural rosiness to her cheeks... cute. Yes, I admit she's cute. Anyone could see that, she had stares from boys in every direction.

I didn't realise I was still staring at her till she looked me dead in the eyes and smiled a sweet, warm smile before I quickly looked away and blushed in embarrassment but also confused, she held eye contact without being freaked out? Most girls would be extremely confused and spread that I'm gay and get me suspended or some shizz. 'She totally digs you, bro.' She doesn't, she is probably just friendly, now go away! 'Fine... you wish she was though' I groaned as I looked at the clock seeing we still had 30 minutes left till break. That's when the head master walked into the room and called mine and jess's name.

Confused, we both walked out into the corridor and Mr. Hopkins mumbled to himself before going "ah! Riley, I'm here to talk to you about you and you're bunking off lessons when you feel? Mind explaining?" he smiled politely at Jess, to assure it won't take long.

"Well, Mr. Hopkins... you see, my mother's needed some help around the house as her boyfriend is off doing some charity work in Africa, I thought it would be acceptable..." this was partially true.

"I'll let you off just this once! But no more, you hear me?!'' I just nodded and turned around to escape, that was until he cleared his throat and added "oh yes, as you are here and won't be taking any more time off... I would like you to show Miss Wood around our school and show her the embracing hug of the Christian community. Also, any other needs or questions she has I'm sure you can assist with." I exhaled a bit too loud and she looked at me with an expression of which you could tell she was hurt by my response. 'You're so mean!' I didn't mean it like that... that's when I smiled a grin and said in the most enthusiastic way "sure! It'll be my pleasure!" great now I sound like a freak! He smiled and placed his hand upon the new girls arm and reassured her and said "you too will get one just well!" he chuckled "Splendid!"

"Hey, I am Riley Williams! I am here for your every need!" I smiled gently and extended my hand. I felt her cold skin touch mine and she grasped my hand softly.

"Heya Riley, I'm Jess. Nice to meet you!" her voice was so soft, like a gentle breath blowing through tree's in autumn or a gentle stream. I felt my stomach get all funny as her dimples appeared as so did a grin as she looked at me still holding her hand. I let go immediately as I laughed awkwardly and apologised, rubbing the back of my neck with my hand. I did that when I was nervous or just confused. To break the moment, I gestured towards the classroom door to allow her to enter first and collect our stuff before the bell signalled for break. Her elegant features left me dazed - following like a lost puppy you could say. I thought carefully to myself, I was stepping on thin ice, a mine field, this could end really bad...
