The rest of class past quickly, me and Jess had just talked about our interests and we were about to discuss music until the bell for break shook the room of its near enough silence. I stood up and zipped my jacket up and put my rucksack on my shoulder as I seen Jess's mouth open but hesitate before shaking her head and mumble under her breath, smile and then turned to walk out of the door. Curious of what she was thinking or wanted to say, I grabbed her wrist and before she could turn back and respond and group of girls approached her and gasped before asking "is she bothering you Jess? I'm Hayley!" I grumbled as I let go of her wrist, seeing her head shake slightly side to side. The blond haired girl looked around her head, looked me up and down and quietly said "you shouldn't hang around with her... she's... not good for you, the new girl." Jess turned her head to look me in the eye and I could see an apologetic look arise just before Hayley cleared her throat and signalled for her to follow her and the three girls that'd always be behind her, following like lap dogs.
I went outside to sit under a big oak tree which made the perfect amount of shade to sit under in the summer and write. Something I needed, summer had just started to kick in and I needed somewhere to escape for the an hour, I hated welsh - I'm glad I didn't get entered for the exam, gives me a lot of free time.
I put my head phones in and played some "Jack Johnson" (yes, I know it's slow! But I love music which is easy to listen to! :D) just as I was about to close my eyes, a group of girls not so far away from me. I watched as they all laughed among themselves, I noticed Jess was with them; she looked over towards me and smiled brightly. That's when a blond girl poked her side to catch her attention and followed her gaze to me; she leant into her ear and whispered something as she looked straight to the floor and looked ... scared? No... Confused. 'Oh great, probably said the usual! Scare the new girl away, like always!' well just give her a chance... 'Doesn't look like she's running to say hi..!' yeah you right. I watched all their backs turn as they walked towards a large rock which lays right in the suns light, good for sunbathing, I guess. That's when I seen a brown haired girls walk out from among the crowd of girls and waved as she flicked her hair out of her face and the sun caught her eyes as a bright smile sparkled in the summers sun. I knew instantly who it was and smiled as my stomach churned and my heart raced.
I took a head phone out of my ear and "Heya, Riley! Mind if I sit with you?" she said loudly, brushing her hair out of her eyes and flashing me a smile. I just nodded with a smile and patted the spot next to me. She sat down and whispered "Hi Jess, nice to see you! Hope you made some nice friends..." she was clearly upset, I felt really bad now... 'Talk you fool!' my mind demanded. "Heyy, Jess. I see you have some new friends?" I smiled a gentle smile, to show I weren't being stroppy. "Yeah, they seem... nice..." she bit the side of her cheek as she took a side glance at me. "Yup. Everyone wants to hang with them; they're old news for me." I laughed awkwardly "and I seen she informed you on something - it was about me I know, but what did they tell you?" This was an awkward subject but it killed me not knowing. She sat there and thought for a moment before biting her lip; "they called you a 'Dyke' but I think they were just jealous of how nice and beautiful you are..." she mumbled the last part but she was going red, as I panicked and wondered whether the girls knew... 'what if they knew!? Your life is over here!' I started to look over to the girls "Riley, Ri!" I was too busy to answer. That's when she grabbed my hand and whispered "are you gay?"
