Essence Badú
13th of December Day
Red Rain Mansion
(Unconscious Mind )"Essence we can't stay here. You're going to have to run!"My mother yelled as she lifted me from the cold ground. The dirt was frosted over from the harsh winter wind. We been running for hours. My legs and lungs burned with want and relief.
"Hurry Essence. I can hear the dogs."
I hated my body when I was eight. My legs could never hold me up right. At first I never thought about it but now that my life is on the line it is all I can think about. I ran as fast as I could. I numbed out the feeling of my bare feet hitting rocks and stones. I hushed my whimpers when my body was getting cut up with random branches.
I ran.
I ran through all the pain; from all my pain. I ran to escape captivity. I ran to free my mother.
"Essence, we're almost there." She shared as her hands tugged my arm.
Run,Essence . Run!
I kept repeating throughout the night.
" I could see the cliff." Mother glee as we approached the rocky edge.
Roof! Roof !
A pair of dogs could be heard a few yards away.
"This is our only chance." Mother said as she lifted me to her hip. I never had a chance to see what was at the bottom. Her hair flew behind her, blocking the view from my eyes. All I could do was feel. Feel how my mother was trembling in fear. Feel how her heart raced.
I could feel how in this very moment, this could be the end.
She jumped.
Her tall figure took a leap off the cliff into still air.It felt like we was in the sky for years. We was there so long that I made friends with the moon and stars. I traveled along the galaxy and danced with the sun. I slept on the clouds while counting its raindrops. We was in the air for ages. At least that what it felt like. The air blowing our hair as we seamlessly glided down. It was peaceful to be still in the air.
But like all good things; they must come to an end.The peace was tragically interrupted when a our body touched the cold water. It was as if the moon didn't want to be my friend anymore. As if the galaxy decide to drop me in a black holes. As if the clouds decided instead of me counting its raindrop that I should drown in them. My body felt numb. My skin was pierce by thousands of little needles. Instantly water flooded my nose, leaving me begging for air. My eyes stung from the coldness yet I still admired the view. The river was empty. Nothing could be seen from the far. Emptiness. Emptiness was mingling with the blue and black depths of the water. Beautiful.
Slowly mother began to rise. Her strong dark arm still wrapped around me tightly, she introduced me back to the surface above.
Unlike those who would gasp for air, I instead called out for my savior.
"Mommy." I cried out. My eyes and lungs burned from the fresh air.
"I'm here, child." She responded while pulling me closer to her.
"I'm here. Don't worry I am here. We are safe now." she said and I believed.
She swam us to the shore. To freedom.
Atleast that what we thought.
