Ivy's Point of ViewI was exhausted. I was barely functioning. But I had trained the men on all the details, also retrained their skills. So my duties at the port had ended and I had one day off, till tonight.
This weekend should have been the weekend I had off. Instead I was being forced to hand over half our guns to the Carter's. Sure they had purchased them from us, and they didn't get a discount.
Normally I didn't care who we were selling the guns to. But I cared this time. Because there wasn't anything stopping them from turning those guns on to us- well apart from the stupid peace crap.
Personally I'd call a war now if I could.
But I wasn't in charge.
This should be an easy exchange. Hell I didn't even take my men with me. Just Marcus. Who normally didn't leave Dad's side.
But tonight he did.
We can to a stop at the shipment. It was a shipping container. Which was surrounded by other shipping containers. I knew this shipping yard, better than most. Knew which one had drugs, knew which one had guns.
A van came to a stop next to our car and Ryder got out. Why hadn't he brought men? I guess he knew this exchange was going to be easy.
The only hard part was going to be loading them into the van.
I pulled up my mask, tucked my pony tail under my hood and got out. Marcus knew I didn't speak. So he was going to be in charge of conversation.
"Where's your men?" Marcus said as soon as he got out.
"Where are yours?" He snapped back and stomped on a cigarette.
I rolled my eyes. I should have brought my men, because at least they could help me load the guns.
Should have thought ahead.
I unlocked the shipping container.
Barrel's being everywhere.
Now to empty them.
We loaded the last load of guns into the van. My shoulder was aching from carrying them. I was handling the pain and was back training with my defence instructor. He was pushing me, saying my flexes had slowed. So he was making it his mission to get me sharper.
Ryder closed the van door and it had gone smoothly.
He jumped a bag of what I assumed was cash in front of me.
"Hopefully next time I see you I'll be ending this bullshit peace and then nothing will stop me from taking you out." His words were hard, mean, direct and painted in truth.
I smiled under my mask. Just like me, he wasn't going to settle for half.
He had left me alone at school. Stopped messaging me and went back to pretending I didn't exist. I was thankful for it.
Just when I went to pick up the bag of cash, all hell broke loose.
Bullets started flying at us.
Where were they coming from?
I pulled reached behind me pulling my gun from the back of my jeans.
But they had machine guns.
Fuck it I should have brought my men.
It was dark. So I was taking stabs at the dark firing back. Then I saw movement on top of the shipments containers. They had waited till we loaded the guns. They had waited, till the cash had been exchanged and now they were going to take both.
Marcus was firing back, like he but he was blinded.
Ryder was firing back from around the van, but we couldn't see shit, if we stayed behind the van and car.
My hood fell down, just as I moved around the van. I aimed and started to count the bullets I had left. I saw one body drop off the shipping containers. But there was more than one firing at us.
They were starting to surround us. I kept aiming and firing but I had stopped counting. Then just when a body jumped off the shipping container and came towards me. I aimed I fired, and nothing came out.
FUCK!
I heard his gun fire. But just as it did, my body was forced to the ground. Ryder was on top of me. He body slumped. He had taken the bullet that was meant for me.
I reached into his hand and took his gun, and fired one head shot at the guy before he could reload and fire at us.
I turned Ryder over. Abdominal shot. Ryder was out of it. Laying on the pavement, dying.
"MARCUS TAKE THE VAN!" I searched for the keys in Ryder's pocket and threw them at Marcus. Bullets were still be firing at us. "AND GET THE CASH!"
"WHAT ABOUT HIM!?" Marcus yelled at me.
"Help me get him in the car." I moved around Ryder. No way could I carry him myself.
Marcus looked at me like I couldn't be serious. But I was.
I glanced at Ryder. I was going to do something I never thought I'd do.
I was going to save Ryder's life.
