"Lets give them a chance. Cmon." Rex demanded in his serious tone.
Everyone has two kinds of tones, there original tone and there buisness tone. But Rex's tone is the most serious tone that no one yells back at. We were all around a large stump, like some kind of council. Rex was standing out from the circle, closest to the stump. He explained what had happen and our response was just 'Yell Yell Yell'. Oh how fun this meeting will be.
"We can't just say 'hey lets combine groups'. They can backstab us. Ive seen it." Mack said as he stepped towards the stump as well.
"They are different. If they wanted us dead, me and Melanie would be on the ground waiting for some Drudge to eat us like a human happy meal." Rex yelled, determined to win the arguement.
Everyone's voices overlapped one another as they took in what he said, before an old red-haired man said calmly, "I say we should. We would be stronger. Have more protection for the children." People around him nodded in aggrement, but not everyone seemed pleased of his words.
A young lady whome I didnt really know, stepped up with her eyes narrowed at the red-haired man. "Or like Mack pointed out, they can backstab us and our children would be dead."
"They already are dead in this world!" One person shouted from the crowd with others yelling in agreement.
My head started to pound from the voices, which made my hand shoot up to my temples, rubbing them in frustration.
"JUST SHUT UP!" I yelled, closing my eyes.
I was answered with complete silence. I dont really talk in these meetings, but my exhaustion got to me which can just make me more pissed off. I opened my eyes to see everyone staring at me in disbelief, everyone but Rex. He knows my limit.
"How about we bring half of our strongest people to the meeting place, and the other half stay with the woman and children. Okay?" I asked like the only answer is to agree with me.
People nodded, in agreement, some were about to argue but I think my glare changed there minds. Rex came beside me, nodding as well, before turning back to the people.
"Me, Jerald, Terrence, Kyle, Cole, Jake, Mack, and Mel will be going. We leave 20 minutes before sunrise. Weapons ready 5 minutes before we leave. If we dont come back in 30 minutes after sunrise, pack everything up and go the opposite way of the highway." He said, like a leader he is which made me smile slightly. Daniel gave me a worried look from my side, but I gave him another look that is well known between us. I'll talk to him later. Convince him that I will come back no matter what. Lie to him like I do everytime I go raiding.
Everyone cleared out in seconds after the last and final words from Rex. I took Daniels hand and walked away like everyone else. My eyes turned back to see Rex standing alone beside the stump, staring at it. I was worried for him. He's just two years older then me, and yet he was forced to grow up into a man.
But then again, I have to grow up. And so does Daniel. In this hectic world, were forced into adult hood.
Life has a funny way of turning you into the one thing you dont wanna be.
