"What do you mean you don't know where they are?" Caden demanded.
"I don't know, we all dispersed when the Drudges came, I'm pretty sure that Rex and most of the guys took the women and children, but the rest of the guys took the trucks like myself and led the Drudges away from them, but me and Rex didn't have enough time to communicate to find out where we will meet..." He explained again with a heavy sigh, like he was disappointed with his own decision.
"Well we have to find them, where do you think they will be?" Caden asked.
"They most likely went up the highway, that's where I'm taking us though keep a sharp look out, not all of those Drudges blew up and we have to pass the town to get to the highway." Kyle said as he turned the gear and accelerated the truck making it go faster.
As soon as that happened Caden's arm slipped around my waist hesitantly, which made my eyes open to glance at him. His eyes were locked onto mine apologetically probably for earlier. I nodded tiredly as I accepted his apology and let my head lean on the window again, but this time my hand found his which was around my waist, pulling it tighter around me wanting someone close to me.
I could tell he was hesitant, but right now, I needed comforting, my family was miles away from me making my heart ache like it was twisting and turning and stretching like you wouldn't believe it. Kyles words were the only thing I could grasp, and for now, its the best Ive got. And before I knew it, my eyes drooped closed as I fell asleep with worry covering my whole heart.

A gun shot rang out making me jump in my seat as I was suddenly woken up. Caden wasn't by my side as he was standing in the trucks bed at the back shooting at exploding Drudges, splattering blood onto the windows. I turn to Kyle who was focused on driving to even notice me awake.
"Where are we now?" I asked scaring Kyle slightly as he looked at me, but relaxed afterwards.
"Were almost to the highway now, but we had some Drudges following us so I got Caden to finish them off, sorry to wake you up sleeping beauty.." He teased with a grin making me smile sheepishly.
"Sorry..."
"Nothing to be sorry about, understandable. You haven't slept since... Yesterday and when you were knocked out." Kyle smiled at me before turning his attention back on the road. I sat back and glanced behind me to look at Caden. His dark brown hair was dry now but his clothes were still damp as hell. Which made me look down at my clothes seeing how it was the same. I sighed, getting Kyles attention making him grin and point at the backpack on the floor.
"There's clothes there, they may fit you but they are guy clothes since they were for one of my patrol buds who was small... we got separated so..." He shrugged and handed me the bag without looking away from the road, but he knew I was smiling with thanks.
"Thank you..." I whispered and opened the bag to see they would fit me, but were clothes that I would never wear to school or a casual summer day. I pulled out some basketball shorts and a guys tight black t-shirt, which might be a bit baggy on me but anything is better than these wet clothes.
I turn to look at Caden who's attention was at the Drudges, then I looked at Kyle who was grinning.
"I wont look..." He assured with a wide grin still plastered on his face. I roll my eyes knowing he would peek anyway so I went fast and quick, as I changed into the shorts, hiding myself with my wet clothes then just before I took off my shirt I kicked his knee hard before changing shirts as fast as lightning.
"Ow!" He exclaimed closing his eyes, and once open here was me clothed and comfortable giving him the same grin he was giving me.
"Oops." I said casually but teasingly, still grinning before I looked out of the window knowing he was grinning his face off, but than I heard a snicker which made me turn back at Kyle, but he was looking behind him, following his gaze to see Caden who was looking like an innocent child who did something completely wrong.
"Pigs..." I mumbled with a grin, making them burst into laughter as we drove, finally entering the highway.
Battered and burned cars were scattered everywhere as we drove, the truck shook slightly at each little bumper we hit as there wasn't a completely perfect path but it would make do at the pace we were going. I see Caden scouting the area saying , "Clear" before Kyle went faster knowing now that there wont be any surprises.
My eyes scanned the empty cars and trucks, feeling empty myself. My sight found Drudges lurking in the forest trees, there exhilarating eyes triggering my memory that these old friends blow up. I start hitting Kyle in panic wanting his attention, quickly getting it he speeds the truck up almost knocking Caden off his feet, his gun close to him as he realizes that they weren't alone. But before we knew it, muddy feet were following us, and fast making Caden shoot them quick and fast, blood exploding on the spot making my stomach lurched. Ew.
I grabbed my gun from under my seat and rolled down my window, shooting myself a few unlucky fellows sending body parts everywhere. More and More were showing up making me stop and reload I looked at the Drudges not only to see there aliveness, but recognizable faces. My heart stops as I see women and children limping their way over to us, and the men running at us before getting blown up by Caden. I scream sending Kyle out of his seat and Caden's gun to almost fall.
"What?" they both said in sync, scared for not only for me, but for themselves.
"Its... Its them! They are our group!" I yelled in panic, my gun shaking in my hand. Kyle turned to see them and had the same horrified look on his face before shooting the truck up and fast sending Caden to the side, almost falling off again. My gun aimed for the Drudges, or... My friends, but I just couldn't pull the trigger.
My heart sank when we got further and further away, not just because my friends are now monsters, but that Daniel and Rex, may be pale, bald, and lifeless like the planet itself.
