CHAPTER 6:Claire
I wish I was an only child, wait no, I wish I was an orphan. How can I put this, I don’t like, no, I hate my family. I didn’t used to hate Aidan, but now he thinks that he’s too cool for me. However, my parents I’ve always held a strong dislike for. Sometimes it’s like they didn’t actually want kids, just something to make them seem like a united family, but we’ve never actually been a real family. We haven’t ever been on a real family vacation, even with all our money. Usually we get shipped all over the country during school breaks. At least Christmas is soon, then I can go to grandma’s house, she is probably the only good person in our whole family and if you think I’m exaggerating, you’re wrong.
I decided it was time for me to get out of the house, so I went for a walk. I loved the park here; the flowers were so pretty in the sunlight. I found myself at a playground so I decided to go and swing. After I had been there for a while just listening to Taylor Swift and swaying back and forth, I felt someone push my back and my swing went higher. I tried to turn and look who it was, but I couldn’t see. Finally someone sat in the swing next to me. It was a boy with the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. Long eyelashes curled over emerald eyes, and his sandy hair covered his forehead. He smiled at me, so I took out my headphones. I wasn’t one to usually converse with strangers in a park, but after the day I had, I would probably talk to a man in a white van that had the words “free candy” spray-painted on the side.
“Hey, I’m Claire,” I say.
“Hey Claire, come here often?” The mystery boy said grinning.
“Ha. Nice try, but what's your name?” I asked taunting him by grinning right back.
“I’m Houdini.” He winks and a cloud of smoke appears and with it he’s gone.
I wonder if I will ever know his name. I figure that I won’t, at least not anytime soon. So, I hop off my swing and start my walk home. My music is turned up loud again, trying to block my thoughts of my family. I guess it was a little too loud, because I couldn’t hear the car horn honking at me as I stepped into the street. I felt metal connect to my legs and then I fall back, my head bouncing on the pavement and I slowly lose consciousness. I guess I shouldn’t spend so much time with my head in the clouds, because it hurts more when you fall.
