 Chapter 3: Training

I woke up feeling good. I was surprised I slept so well even though it was my first night there. I sat up hearing a knock at my door. Crawling from my bed,  I drifted across the room in a zombie like manner to answer the door.  Opening the door I saw a man in a red uniform.

“Good morning, Marcus. Here’s your order of clothes.”

 “Thanks,” I answered.

He handed me a box, and left. The box was unusually small. Consequently, I wondered what could fit in this. The box was barely bigger than my hand. I sat on the bed while I opened the box. I barely understood what was happening. I unwrapped the wrapping paper. Then I anxiously opened the box. I didn’t know whether to be scared or excited, but I watched this red light levitate out the box and into the air at light speed. I turned my head following the light with my eyes. It sped around my room as if looking for something. I guess whatever it was looking for was in my closet, because that’s where it stopped. I slowly crept over to the closet. Opening the door, I saw lots of clothes lined up on their respectable hanger. I was overwhelmed. I didn’t understand how you could pack so many clothes in one small box, but right now I didn't care. Not wasting my time, I picked me out an outfit, jumped in the shower, and put on my clothes.

I heard another knock on my door. Walking out the bathroom fully dressed, I opened the door to see Darian standing there.

 “Good morning, Darian,” I said.

“Good your dressed, we need to start training now,” He explained.

 “Okay,” I replied

Darian led me back to the room where his daughter was wounded.  He pulled a lighter out of his back pocket.

“Marcus try to control this fire with your mind,” he instructed, “Try to strengthen the fire.”

I studied the lighter and concentrated on strengthening the fire. I might as well been concentrating on not concentrating because the fire didn’t move.

“Marcus, remember how you felt when you first controlled fire. Visualize the fire growing bigger in your mind,” he said.

That’s what I did. I looked at the fire. I closed my eyes painting a vivid picture of the fire. I could see myself controlling it, as it became bigger and bigger. Opening my eyes, I let instinct control me. I watched as the fire blazed almost burning Darian’s hand.

“Great, Marcus. Now, try it again,” he said in a panicky voice, “and don’t try so hard this time.”

I repeated the routine. Every time I succeeded it became as easy as tying your shoe.  Eventually, it came to the point when I didn’t have to try so hard. The power flowed like water down a calm stream.

“How is Kaitlyn?” I asked.  I didn’t need to know. I just couldn’t get her out my mind.

“She’s doing well,” he replied joyfully probably because he was happy to know someone cared, “thanks for your concern.”

 “You’re welcome,” I answered back.

“Okay, that’s good for today,” he said as a man came in to see Darian, “You came just in time, Chad.”

“Good morning, Darian,” Chad said, “Let me guess, you’re Marcus”

“Yes I am, nice to meet you,” I replied.

“Marcus, Chad is to train you in combat.” Darian informed.

 “Okay,” I replied.

“Well, Marcus,” Darian said, “I will see you when I see you.”
