[Marcus]
"Just to remind the rest of you, Marcus is an elementer. Meaning he can manipulate certain elements. Supposedly his two are fire and water," Chad begun after I stepped up to begin my lesson.
"Yes sir!" I replied.
"My favorite aspect of elementers is their ability to combine their elements for a convenient use. Such as..," started Chad before he was interrupted.
"Fire and water is most commonly used to conjure up steam. Steam allows the yielder to use it to his advantage such as stealth."
"Thanks Ms.Marshall," Chad mummbled annoyed by her outbursts.
"Marcus, you think you could try to combine your two elements?"
"I'll try," I replied with unusual enthusiasm.
Everyone watched attentively, especially Amy, as I began my lesson.
Chad began to teach about the two elements I possessed. "The water element tends to be absorbed from outside the body such as water vapor or mist. On the other hand, the fire element is found within the body. As the bonds of energy break, they create heat causing an elementer to be able to collect the heat and release it. Often elementers have a surplus amount of ATP, that may force it's way out when they're angered or frightened."
My eyes glanced over to see Drew who stood nonchalantly with an image of disgust covering his face. I could've sworn he was sent by the devil to destroy my life.
"So, Marcus try drawing the flames first, and then adding the water."
"Yes sir!" I responded as I closed my eyes connecting my thoughts with my actions.
I held open my palms as I scrutinized the fireball the size of a baseball laying in my hands.
"Think you could make it a little bigger?" Chad questioned with curiousity.
Reaching deep inside my body for the energy to withstand such a thing, I slowly inflated the ball planted amongst my fingertips.
"Okay great," Chad coached inspecting my sphere of flames, "Now try to quickly submerge it with water, but this time absorb the water from the air around you and not the river."
Realizing I was being stared at by everyone a thin layer of sweat had began to appear. I closed my eyes raising my free hand attempting to connect with the H2O particles that float through the air. Like a magnet, I imagined pulling these particles in my direction. My palm becoming a black hole swallowing the moisture from the air. Opening my eyes, I noticed the mini-fishbowl size sphere hovering in the air.
Admiring the two, I noticed my last step. Expanding the distance between my two hands, I smashed the elements together producing a cloud of mist that surrounded all of us.
"Perfect!" Chad yelled.
Due to my creation, my suroundings became sucluded, prohibiting me from seeing if I even had a chance of impressing Kaityln.
[Kaitlyn]
I closed my eyes as this 'Marcus made' mist surrounded me. Although I was irritated by the thin layer of water left on my clothes, I enjoyed the sauna-like sensation from the moist steam that lingered in the air.
I soon felt a sudden gust of wind blowing my hair, as Cameron quickly turned into a golden eagle. The wind flew past me; his wings rising and falling repeatedly to clear the mist.
"Good thinking, Cameron." Chad spoke with enthusiasm, "This is a perfect demonstration of what you all are capable of. Your powers are almost endless, due to your creativity. Marcus could use his powers to do something as simple as setting off the fire alarm. But due to the passing of time and the urgency to make it to Eurus Heights, we have to get going. So get your drinks of water, make sure you have a good supply of water, and lets go."
Retrieving my water bottle from my bag, I flipped my hair making my way to the river. I knelt down at the bank of the river lowering the canteen into the calm, blue stream. Suddenly, the water waved not in a regular circular motion, but more of a sound wave. There in the water appeared a woman whose face resembled my fathers. As I prepared to scream, she shh-ed me requesting me to stay calm.
"Hello, niece." her sootheing voice entered my ears. Niece? NIECE? My father always told me about my evil uncle Zane, but I've never knew I had an aunt.
"Just listen," I watched as the words escaped her lips, "Don't trust Chad! He's not who you think he is?"
"Wait what?" I responded as the water shimmered again leaving the regular water drifting down the stream.
I looked up. "You ok?" asked Amy who was obviously observing me a little too detailed.
"Oh, I'm alright," I responded rising from the stream with a full canteen.
"Let's get going!" Chad instructed as the sun began to set.
**********
We had been walking for what seemed hours. The muscles in my back cried out in agony as I carried my bag packed with everything. When deciding what to bring, It became difficult to differentiate between what was important and what was not. Consequently, I brought what I could, which I can tell by this excruciating pain in my back, was the best decision in the history of decisions. For a second, I contemplated using my telekinesis to carry my things, but I figured my precious energy will be needed elsewhere.
I could tell the climate was changing. The temperature had increased greatly, and every aspect of my surroundings revealed themselves as evidence. The earth screamed for an ounce of water, as it cracked leaving behind an upper layer of sand. The frequent gusts we had been accustomed to disappeared leaving behind wind who refused to show her face. My soul's need for water became dire.
"How long will this last?" I screamed to Chad as he hiked in front as if we were on the beach, but the sand of this land resembled the desert. This was a whole new level of discomfort, and I could feel it as my lips began to crack.
"Shouldn't be nothing more than a few more miles," he casually replied raising his shoulders.
"A few?" Cameron questioned.
"Approximately fifteen more miles are remaining," says Amy as she finishes looking at some odd device resting in her pale hands.
"Thanks," says Chad offering an sarcastic tone.
"Oh you're wel-,"
All eyes turned towards Amy, including mines, realizing she was receiving an involuntary vision. Her hair slightly rose as her eyes turned green. Not to say that they weren't green before, but they were now vibrant, shining. Noticing her rising from the ground, I reached out with my telekinesis tying an invisible anchor to her.
The world was silent nothing moved. The river we used to be accompanied by now was just a dry trench filled with dust. Before Amy's feet finally touched the ground, she screamed a single word.
RUN!
