"You woke Marcus?" I heard coming from Chad as I rubbed my eyes. The brightness of the blinding morning sun painted on the canvas of the sky, and my sleepiness didn't mix. I begged for just one more hour of sleep, to lay in bed, and not to start this journey, but yet I stood outside the building waiting for instructions from Chad.
"Yes sir," I replied.
The eager Amy Marshall stood ready with a book in her hand that I couldn't makeout the name from the distance I stood. My eyes moved to Cameron who stood with his backpack looking unusual heavier than everyone elses. Drew, the same as yesterday, stood looking nonchalant about the task at hand. Finally, Kaitlyn rested against the wall picking at her fingernails. Such a dull task looked so beautiful coming from her.
"Ok, guys, come look at my map." he stopped waiting on everyone to gather around, "So, we are right here and will be making our way through Glacies Valley along the Metus River, which should take us right through the fire territory. Not soon after that, we should be making our way to the station outside of Eurus Heights."
"Isn't Eurus Heights known for its traditional training of the arts, magic and alchemy?" Amy presented a question more so saying than asking.
"Yes, you're right, Ms.Marshall. So, I think it's best if we start walking now. I'm hoping we can make it at least hallway to Glacies Valley."
Leading us off, Chad began walking as everyone followed. As we tailgated Chad, we were tailgated by the silence that fell over everyone.
"So, why are we going again," I heard Cameron ask as he fiddled with a couple of twigs in his hand.
"One, to help you guys improve your skills, and to deliver this to the head master of Eurus Heights."
"Ok, how often will we be working on our abilities?" asked Kaitlyn.
"Well, I guess now is a good time. You guys can put your bags down," waiting till everyone was done he paused, "Who would like to go first."
"Me! Me!," the high pitched voice from Amy targeted my ears.
"Well, Amy show me what you got."
We all waited with anticipation in a circle as Amy stood in the middle. Closing her eyes, she put two fingers to her temple concentrating. The silence finally broke as she opened her eyes.
"Kaitlyn you have a text. Bless you Chad. Watch your step Drew. Cameron you might want to ask for help with that itch on your back. Marcus you might want to close your mouth before a bug flies in."
I watched in amazement as everything happened in order. Kaylin's loud phone vibration began the chain reaction ending with me realizing my mouth was wide open.
"Well done, Amy," Chad said, "Who's next?"
Kaitlyn was the first one to speak up, " I guess I'll go."
Sliding her phone in her pocket, she stepped out to the side of the group. Raising to fingers to her head, she concentrated. Closing her eyes, I watched as it seemed the world had stopped. Finally, several touches of grass flew up seeming as a domino effect. Throwing all the grass aside, I noticed her masterpiece in missing patches of grass. Reading the letters now engraved in the field of grass, I read KAITLYN.
Receiving her hand clap for a job well done she walked back towards the group.
"How about," Chad started, "Cameron?"
"Awesome!" he responded.
Leaning his head side to side, I watched him prepare for his show. I could tell from his facial expression, he had been waiting for this the whole time.
"I've been attempting to combine two animals recently to make a deerbra for example. So here goes!"
After seeing the small shimmer reflect off his body, I blinked. And suddenly he was gone, replaced with a full blown lion. He took off running suddenly jumping, but instead of coming down he transformed into a raven as he gracefully flew the through the skies. Returning to his spot, he returned to his original form.
"Man," Cameron started, "I was hoping it worked this time."
"Well, I'm sure we'll have to work on that along the way. Now you should go Drew."
Without saying a word, he stepped aside. Within seconds he disappeared. Reappearing behind Chad almost scaring him half to death.
"Last but not least, Marcus."
Swallowing my fears, I spoke two words, "I can't."
"Can't what?"
"My powers hadn't came in yet."
"Well we'll just have to work on that."
All I could do as of right now is make a fireball in my hand. I wasn't going to make a fool out myself, but I still feel like I looked like one. "Well, I guess we'll make camp here and start back in the morning."
Preparing my things for slumber I didn't say a word. I secretly feared that me uttering one word would look like a bigger fool.
