Chapter Two: Trouble in Paradise
Jazz's POV
When I finally took my seat in first period science, I was crushed. When Ronnie left, I was in full blown depression and I still am. That run in with Jacob didn’t help. I was late so I didn’t get to meet up with Bianca. Honestly, I’m glad I didn’t because I’m such a mess. God, I hate Science, I thought as I was taking out my homework. Ms. C, my teacher, was already going around collecting it. When she reached my desk, she scowled down at me and yanked away my homework off my desk. I gave her a death glare but she already turned away. I sighed and put my hand on my cheek. Ms. C started her long speech about chemicals or some crap like that. She kept going on and on to the point where I was falling asleep; however, the sound of a door opening jerked me awake. Ms. C stopped mid-sentence and looked at the door.
“Excuse me. Sorry.” said a very familiar voice. I glanced up and was utterly flabbergasted.
“It’s quite alright Jacob. But, what are you doing here?” asked Ms. C. Jacob gave her a sweet smile. I internally scoffed. Jerk…
“Well, I need to finish a test.” Ms. C nodded and pointed to an empty seat. I looked to my side. Oh no… My partner was absent today. Shit. My head was down when I sensed someone sit next to me.
“Now, Jacob, don’t disturb Miss. Lytle. Just finish your test, then leave.” Jacob nodded. I continued looking down until Ms. C started passing out Pop Quizzes. She handed me mine and I got to work. Did we learn any of this? I was tapping my pencil on the table in thought, also trying to muster up any memory of this.
“It’s C”, Jacob’s voice tickled my ear. I rolled my eyes.
“Shut up. You’ll get us in trouble! And it’s not C”, I muttered. Jacob chuckled under his breath.
“It is C. I’m not as stupid as you think.” I shift my eyes in his direction. In my peripheral vision, I could tell that Jacob’s arms were on the table and his muscular back was hunched over in “concentration”. Our arms were mere millimeters apart.
“Whatever. Just stop talking to me.” I turned my attention back to the quiz. I quickly circled A only because I knew he was looking at me.
“Wrong, but what do I know right? I’m just some player and a d*ck huh? Okay.” Jacob hastily began scribbling down random answers. Before he stood up, though, he leaned over and his breath stirred up my hair. He said, “Oh, and by the way, Bianca is a fantastic kisser.” With that, he was gone. I was stunned but went back to the previous question and erased my answer. With only five minutes left, I quickly circled another answer and handed in my quiz.
Soon after second period, I was heading towards my locker. At my locker stood a very excited looking Bianca. I dragged my feet to her. She saw me and lit up like a child on Christmas morning.
“Jazz! Oh my god!” She ran into me with her arms tightly hugging around me. She let go and shook me. “I have to tell you such exciting news!” She stopped with the shaking and tilted her head. “Hey, what’s up?” I shook my head and walked past her to my locker.
“Nothing. Now, what is it you want to tell me?” She smiled brightly and began her long tirade.
“Well, when I was walking to my first period, I ran into this guy. All my books fell to the ground and I was just about to punch his lights out but then he started picking them up! He stood up and when I saw him… Whoa. What a hottie! I was breathless and it was so embarrassing! I stuttered a thank you and we began talking. And guess who it was! Jacob Blu! Oh gosh! We started talking and he was so sweet. He really impressed me but then the bell rang for first period. I told him goodbye and just when I was walking away I felt a hand grab my wrist and pull me into a closet! It was Jacob and I asked him what he was doing but he cut me off with a kiss. Oh Jazz, we missed half of first period just making out! It was great. And he wanted to sit next to me at lunch and of course I said yes!” I couldn’t believe Bianca said all that in one breath. I stared at her and turned to my locker. Out of nowhere, I just banged my head against it and continued doing that. I repeated it over and over again while thinking, my life sucks, my life sucks, and my life sucks. “Jazz?” I stopped and looked at Bianca. She was giving me a weird look but I just shrugged and opened my locker.
“That’s great Bianca! Good for you. Now, excuse me, I have choir to go to.” I shut my locker with a bang and stomped away. Now, I was not jealous. I was just pissed off that Jacob was doing this just to piss me off. I marched all the way to my class and didn’t look back. When I entered, I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I loved singing. Soon, my music teacher began instructing us and I sang out all my worries.
After fourth period, I was certainly in no rush to lunch. I sluggishly walked to the lunch room. Then, someone ran into me.
“Oof!” Startled, I turned around and found a girl on the floor.
“Oh gosh! I’m sorry!” I offered the girl my hand. She shook her head and stood up.
“It wasn’t your fault. I shouldn’t have been running. Sorry Jazz.” I furrowed my brows.
“Do I know you?” She lifted her head and a light clicked on. Oh…
“It’s Caitie. Remember?” I nodded.
“Yeah. Sorry.” I gave Caitie an apologetic smile and she continued on. Her long blond hair was the last thing I saw of her before she disappeared behind a corner. I shrugged and moved on. I slowly entered the cafeteria looking for Bianca. I spotted her at the last table cuddled up to Jacob. Damn it. I ran my hands over my face in frustration and started to the table. I stood right in front of them but I guess they didn’t see me since they were so wrapped in to each other. Ew. I rolled my eyes and slammed my backpack on the table. They jerked their heads up at me in shock. “Sorry. Am I interrupting?” I gave them a fake smile. Bianca didn’t seem to notice but Jacob did and that was my exact intention.
“Oh no! Please sit, Jazz”, Bianca said with a smile. I sat and glared at Jacob, not hiding my disgust. He smiled brightly at me and that only made my glare darker. Jacob was playing with Bianca’s hair like it was the most fascinating thing in the freaking universe. She was blushing like crazy but swatted his hand away. “Jake! Stop!” Bianca was giggling. Giggling! Ugh.
“Oh come on, babe.” What did he just call her? I was stunned that he was actually doing this to get a rise out of me. Jacob smirked at thinking it was working. It is working you idiot. I shook my head of the thought.
“So Jacob, you like my best friend huh?” I asked sweetly.
“I do. Very much.” Jacob kissed Bee on the cheek and her blush deepened.
“Are you sure? Because, just the other day weren’t you all over Katherine?” I questioned. Jacob scowled at me.
“No,” he said firmly. I scoffed.
“Okay. Lie all you want.”
“Jake, what is she talking about?” Bianca asked. Her brow was furrowed with confusion and worry. Jacob smiled at her.
“Nothing. She’s just upset because she has to watch you with your boyfriend when her boyfriend left.” My jaw dropped. Did he just go there? Yes. Yes he did. Bianca’s face was in shock and Jacob’s was blank. With a huff, I shot up like a rocket and ran. I ran out of the lunch room. I ran down the hall. I stopped and slid down a bare wall. I was breathing heavily and put my face in my hands. Jacob was so mad at me and he’s such a jerk. He said he would prove to me what he was. A player and a d*ck. He was doing this by shoving in my face that Ronnie is gone and by dating my best friend. Man, I’m so screwed.
