As soon as she opened the door she peeped into the hallway. There was no one there. It was dark and the moonlight managed to illuminate the hallway just enough to see. She turned around to close the door when she stood in shock as she stared at the figure which stood a few feet in front of her. He came closer to her. The moonlight illuminated his familiar scruffy hair and his innocent eyes. " Gus!" she whispered in shock. Before she could do anything he grabbed her and hugged her tightly. Clara was shocked. Her heart was racing, what was happening?
Gus refused to let her go. His tight grasp lightened but he held her close to him. Clara's head was buried in his shoulders. His soft voice whispered " Clara.... please.....don't go.."
Clara's eyes filled with tears. His closeness reminded her how much she loved him. He hugged her for sometime before holding her back, and looked into her dark blue eyes.
" Did you forget your promise?" he asked.
It was then his promise made sense to her. How easily her thoughts had been changed shocked her. She realized how easily one could get manipulated and how hard it was to remain the same. She knew that all she had to do to become an angel was to keep her promise.
" No Gus, I would never break that promise."
Gus smiled at her. "I was waiting outside your door since this morning..." he spoke.
Clara laughed at him " Aw Gus! Now that's a bit too much don't you think?" she smiled casually. "I mean why would you do that?" she cried smiling.
" In case you would run away." he replied looking at her with a wry smile.
Clara was silent.
He looked into her eyes. " You know Clara..." he spoke, "Ever since you shut yourself in your room,I could feel every emotion you felt."
" You... You could..." she stuttered not knowing whether to feel surprised or scared at what he told her.
" I could feel your tears of sadness against your tears of pain. And I felt a horrible darkness creep into you, in to your heart." he spoke. He was very concerned. He didn't shift his gaze even once from Clara for his words were filled with much feeling and anxiety.
" I stayed outside on this corridor the whole time feeling your heart creep up with darkness, you were feeding your demon. Please don't do that again." he finished.
" But.. how do you know.. what Feel?" Clara asked.
Gus didn't reply instantly. He let out a deep sigh and whispered. " I can sense darkness. I don't have to see everything, I can sense certain emotions as well."
Clara softly gulped. Could he feel everything she felt? If so, does he know that she likes him?
Clara felt more and more sadness fill her heart when she looked at him. She really liked him, loved him,but she knew that he would never feel the same for her. He loved her as a friend and cared for her as a friend.
" Then you probably know what Leo feels huh?" she asked hoping to change the subject from her to Leo.
" Yeah, I can. But not all the time. He's powerful enough to hide his emotions too you know."
" He hides his emotions?"
" Leo is a very different character. He seems very cold and brutal to those who don't know him but his heart is in fact very weak, meaning easily hurt."
Clara was surprised to hear that. She thought that Leo would be one of those 'unbreakable' characters but to think he actually had a soft side made her feel a hint of empathy for him for a second.
" Look Gus, as much as I want to stay, I can't ." she cried. She knew her words had struck him, for she saw his eyes fill with sadness and shock.
" What do you mean? You are leaving?"he asked.
" I'm truly sorry Gus." she continued looking down. She didn't want to see his face for it only brought pain for her.
" I tried to fit in, I trained as much as I could for the few days I was given but I'm not good enough.I mean I have two huge bruises which prove it too. Leo told it himself. I'll go with my mother. I was sneaking out anyway." she looked away. She was ashamed at herself. Confessing made her realize how stupid she was. She was running away, fleeing.
Gus's eyes shifted to the side. He was searching for something to say. Clara sighed. " I'm very sorry Gus." she repeated as she turned to walk to her mother's room. She felt a lump in her throat. She knew her tears weren't far from streaming down her face again. She loved the new journey she was on but she wasn't strong enough to go through it.
" No!"
His tone of voice made her quickly turn around. Gus was mad.
" To hell with Leo's words!" he's words caught her attention. " He may be the head guardian, but that doesn't give him the authority to change your decisions."he spoke.
" But Gus, he ordered me to.."
" So he did, so what? What does he expect you to do? You only had one training session after all. Now if you had been training for a while and then failed, then his orders can be considered valid, but Clara, for that one training session you had with Sylvannes, you fought well today!" he spoke.
Clara took in everything Gus said. He was right. She hadn't thought of how unfair Leo's decision was.
" Take your time Clara." Gus spoke."I gave you my opinion. Please.. stay tonight and rethink your decision. Either you can leave Dynasty with a strong mind, or stay and train yourself to grow with a strong mind and a strong heart."he finished. He came close to her and kissed her forehead.
" Your a strong girl" he winked and walked down the dim corridor and out of sight.
Clara went to her room. Her head was troubled by a lot of things. She really wanted to stay and Gus did have a good point. She felt a certain amount of joy when she thought about Gus. He may only love her as a friend, but that alone was more than enough back up strength for her. He had been waiting since morning outside her door? She couldn't believe it. She had told him to go, but he hadn't. He was a dedicated person. At times she thought that he was too perfect. How she wished that he loved her more than a friend. It was useless to think about that now. She let her thoughts run. She thought about the sudden hug he gave her which made her tears fell. She thought about all the mixed emotions she had. She felt a strong mix of happiness, love and she also felt safe at that moment. She was hopeful, a emotion which she was thirsty for. She couldn't understand what type of strong worries Gus must have had for him to care so much for her. After all he isn't human. He's more than that. He's literally an angel. She needed more time to understand. There were so much mysteries in this new world she was in. Mysteries not only in how the new world worked, but also it's inhabitants. After an immense struggle through the war of her thoughts, she considered every option and came to a decision. Each option had its own pros and cons. Gus's voice kept ringing in her head , ' A strong mind, or a strong mind and a strong heart? '
