I sigh with relief.
"Ethan you scared me." I told him.
"Why?" He asked.
"Because you not suppose to be in this part of the woods."
"Ya hehe about that um...I sorta got lost..." he trailed off. I roll my eyes mentally before speaking.
"Ok well I was headed to the pond anyways let's go." I tell him. Then we head off through the giant mess of trees.
~Time Skip~
We made it to the pond five minutes later than I wanted to because of Ethan and I's little conversation. Also Ethan kept stopping every few seconds to check if any noise that was possibly made, either by an animal, or the guy himself, could be his sister.Tech was already waiting by the pond when we got there. She rolled her eyes at me, but then gave me a menacing glare at the sight of Ethan by my side.
I rolled my eyes before striding over to her.
"So, did you find anything? Any clues?" I ask. She shakes her head. "Ok how about you? Did you find any clues Ethan?" I ask him. I can't believe I didn't think of asking him when we first encountered each other.
"No...not really." He answered. I cocked an eyebrow and put my hands on my hips.
"What do you mean not really? Did you find anything or not?" I ask firmly. He gives me a look I can't explain, which makes me think for a second, but before I could figure out the look he had he spoke.
"Well...I found this." He said and held up a small and tattered teddy bear. It had a pink bow on its right ear and it was a tan color before dirt got all over it. It's left arm was slightly ripped and some stuffing was peeking out.
I grabbed the bear from him and examined it for anything that could give us a sign if she was infected or not. After zero signs of her condition I remember something.
"Hey I almost forgot, what's your sisters name?" I asked him.
"Sophia." He answered. I nodded. What a pretty name. Unlike mine that literally means witch.
"Ok well we found something. Let's go back and meet in another hour." I told them. They nodded and we all set off in our different directions.
***
A little after walking back to where I'm suppose to be I hear a rustle in the bushes.
I reach for my sword and place my hand on its hilt and wait for anything.
Suddenly a body pops out from behind the bushes and flops on the group.
I jump back quickly and unsheathe my sword and get into a mid stance ready for the infected. But what I hear isn't groans of hunger, it's moans of pain.
I furrow an eyebrow but keep my stance as I slowly stride over to the person laying in the ground. As I get closer the noises get louder and I'm still skeptical if he's infected or not.
I'm pretty positive he's not because his skin looks clean and fresh, not gross and rotted. But there still might be a chance that he was bitten.
As soon as I get to about 3-5 feet in front of him I circle around so I can see his face. When I'm in front of his coiled body I can see a little part of his face and he looks human.
I slowly put my sword back into its sheath and kneel down. I reach out to touch him but think better of it and use my foot to get his attention. I still can't believe he hasn't noticed me.
