Chapter 4: The Awakening (Sophia's P.O.V)
"Welcom home, Madam Sophia. How was school today?" one of my other many butlers greeted, as I entered through the front door.
"It was good. Thank you for asking," I answered as I gave him my bag. He smiled, then walked away. A few minutes later, Lance followed me inside. He forcefully grabbed my hand and interlaced his fingers with mine. I gave him a shocked look, which he returned with a glare. He then looked forward, putting on his million dollar fake smile. Of course, his disguise must be put up in the face of my parents.
We both walked into the living room, him basically dragging me. I first saw my father, who sat on his chair, talking on the phone. My mother sat on the couch next to his chair, reading a book. Both of my parents looked up as soon we entered.
"Ah, yes. I'll call you back later," my father said as he hung up and stood up. "Nice for you two to finally show up. Sophia, quickly get ready, the gate keeper is expecting us in an hour and a half. Lance, may I speak to you for a moment? Alone?" Lance straightened his back, a look of worry on his features. I was a little worried as well, for his sake I guess. He looked at me, giving me a reassuring squeeze to my hand, and a small smile as he let go and followed my dad to another room.
"Isn't he so sweet," my mom said, touching the place over her heart in awe. Of course, any gentle gesture by Lance is all an act. My mom then turned her attention towards me. "So how was school?"
"It was fine. I met some... pretty nice people," I said, thinking of Zachery. He seemed so casual and laid back. There's a lovely collection of Lance inflicting pain on me, but Zach was the one who stopped another addition. He defended me when no one else gave a second glance.
"That's nice. I hope it wasn't too much for you, though," Mom said with a pout.
"It wasn't. I can't wait until Monday," I told her excitedly.
"Madam Sophia, it's time for you to get dressed," a maid informed me. I looked at my mother, waiting for her to send me off.
"Oh, okay. I'll see you at the Awakening," Mom told me. I gave her a quick kiss on her cheek, then followed the maid up to my room. When we reached my bedroom, a traditional dragon trainer uniform was laid on top of my bed. The maid picked it up and gave it to me. I went to the bathroom to change.
As I changed, I saw the dragon birthmark on my back, on my right shoulder blade, through the mirror. It was the significant sign that we were born a dragon trainer, we'd fair out our lives as a dragon trainer, and we'd die honorably as a dragon trainer. Every dragon trainer's tattoo are the same, which was a black simple dragon taking flight into the air with it's massive wings folded protectively around it's body. However, we might all have the same mark, we all were born with them at different locations of our body. Like, my mother has it on the back of her neck, my father has it proudly on his chest, and thankfully I still don't know where Lance's is. I'm not planning to find out any time soon.
After a few minutes, I came out dressed, and went towards the full- length mirror. The main metallic armor pieces covered one shoudler, my chest, fit as gloves over my hand till below my elbow, and knees. Underneath, I wore a tight long sleeved black shirt, and black pants that hugged my thighs, but loosened around the lower part of my legs. The maid pulled my hair back into a high pony tail, letting my hair swish smoothly over the back of my neck.
I looked back at my reflection. WIth my chin held high, my posture confident, and the determined look in my eye, I actually looked like the trainer I was born to be. Though, inside, I felt nothing close to it.
