Not As Planned

The boys were going out to hunt tonight. It was perfect. Until it wasn't. Kinda forgot I was a vampire, too, and needed food like them, too. "Vanessa, this is your first hunt, yes?" Dalton asks. I nodded. "Yeah, yeah. So...what do we do?" I asked, impatient. "Be patient." Of course. "What are we going to be hunting?" I ask. "Whatever may come through here." "Cool." Ruben looks my way, picking up my impatience. "Do you need to be somewhere? We can bring you the snack later." I perk up. "Thanks Rub!" I jump up and kiss him lightly on the cheek. "Oh. Sure thing." He looked confused as I ran off.

"Thank god for easy going vamps like Ruben." I said as the woods rush past me on either side. It feels so good to run this fast! It didn't make me sick anymore, it was normal. Like simply walking through the park. Ok, so I need to find Kyler. Talk him down. I thought in my head. Where on earth could he be? For all I know, he's not even on earth! "Vanessa. What are we going to do with you?" A voice says suddenly. I screech to a halt and turn. Oh. There he is. "Do you have a death wish, Vanessa?" He laughs. "It may not be too late for that." I ignore him. "How did you know I came to talk to you?" I asked. He smirks. "I always know when someone needs me. It's one of my many special gifts." "Then you know I came to calm you down. Put an end to this." He sighs and sits on a nearby log. "You can sure try."

"If you loved a vampire, then you know how I feel about Dalton." I say. He doesn't move. "You must know what it feels like to lose someone close to you." "Well, sure. Hello? Remember my brothers? All four of them-dead. And my one sister." He scoffs. "Exactly! Do you wish that pain on everyone else?" I ask. "Yes." He said simply, then smiled sweetly in that evil but attractive way. I suck in a deep breath. "What was her name?" He knew I meant the vampire girl, not his sister. "Elahna." He sighed. "That's a pretty name." He shrugs. "How did you meet?" Kyler's eyes gleam a little. "I was showing around the new arrivals when she came over, yelling at me to shut up. I was talking too loud, she was trying to read." I laughed a little. "Vampires and demons were both in hell at some point?" He nodded. "There was a time when we thought we were one in the same." His eyes show sadness. "But suddenly a vampire killed a demon, and ever since then, we've been enemies. Worst enemies. Elahna and I had been dating for about two months when this happened. We were completely unaware of the battle going on between our kind. I proposed and she said yes. I went to my father with the good news, and he completely lost it. I thought he was going to kill me, he was so angry. Elahna and I tried to ignore the fighting, we tried to fight the fighting. But we couldn't. The leaders from both sides ordered some men to kill us, but they were unsucessful." Kyler stops talking. I wait for him to continue.

"...And then....my father told me to kill Elahna. Of course, I didn't want to, but this was my father. If I didn't kill her, he would." Kyler halts his story again. "And he'd kill me. So," he sighs, "I promised Elahna I'd be right behind her. She didn't know what I was talking about. She had no clue I was ordered to kill her. My plan was to kill her, then kill myself so we could still be together." He looks to the ground. "But my father had other plans. As I stood there, prentending to hug her, I had to just do it. I looked into her yellow eyes as I snapped her neck, watching the light go out." I started to feel uncomfortable. I brought this on myself. "I was just about to stab myself with a knife I had pocketed, but my father stopped me." Kyler's red eyes literally had fire burning in them. "He knocked the knife out of my hands and dragged me away. My punishment, not only for being engaged to the enemy but for almost killing myself for it, was to spend all eternity in the dungeon." "But you're here now." Kyler smiles. "I guess Father changed his mind." There was something about the way he said it that made me uncomfortable.

"I'm so sorry. That sounds horrible." I said quietly. "The thing that bothers me the most now isn't that I killed Elahna." He looks up to me with a terrifying grin. Other demons pop out from all corners, glaring and leaving fire everywhere they go.

"It's that I enjoyed doing it."
