the realms of day and night, two different worlds coming from two opposite poles mingled during this time.

jeongguk awakens with a start. his room, once a bright white, is now pitch black.

"so, the boy awakens."

a voice calls out to him, but he cannot see the owner of it. he cannot see anything. there is nothing in the room besides jeongguk, and this voice. why was it such a familiar sound?

jeongguk wants to get up, wants to leave the horribly dark room, but something holds him there. something ties him to the darkness.

"who are you?"

a deep chuckle rings out from behind the veil of shadows. it echoes, despite the absence of walls in this place, in this realm.

"don't you recognize my voice?"

the boy, now frightened, calls back, "no,"

again, there's a chuckle. it mocks jeongguk.

"show yourself."

there's a moment of silence beyond the darkness, and soon, the owner of the voice steps toward the boy.

"that's close enough."

jeongguk can't quite see it. the darkness that fills the room, it radiates off of the being standing before him.

"what are you? why can't i see you?"

"do you wish to see me?"

jeongguk senses something in its voice. amusement, danger, evil. "yes."

slowly, the darkness surrounding it recedes, revealing its face and body.

jeongguk's stomach drops. he screams and falls back, his body landing on the floor with a thud.

it's him. it's jeongguk. it has his face, his eyes, his nose, his body. it's him in almost every way. but at the same time, this thing, this monster, it isn't him. it looks like him, and it sounds like him, but it could not be jeongguk.

"what are you?! who are you?!"

the creature, the horrible, terrifying thing, laughs. it laughs and laughs and laughs. "i'm you."

"no! no, you're not!"

"yes, i am." it grins, "i'm every terrible thing you've ever done, and every disgusting thought you've ever had. i'm every evil you've tried desperately to suppress. i'm you."

jeongguk feels bile rise from his stomach. tears pool in his eyes as he tries to drag himself away from the revolting creature before him.

"god, no, please." the boy cries out, "go away! why are you here?!"

"to destroy you, essentially."

it bares its ugly teeth, and jeongguk suddenly can't stop the tears.

"you care so, so much. how do you cope? you care so much about everyone else, but so little about yourself."
