"okay class! by now all of you should be finished the worksheet so for the last twenty minutes we will be marking eachothers papers. backrow switch with the row infront of you, front row switch with with the row behind you."

casey, who sat in the backrow rolled her eyes. she almost said why can't you just mark our papers? casey hated when other kids had to mark her work, they would pretend to read through it and reply with "you got everything right good job!" and wait for their paper to be returned.

casey was a smart student. there was no denying that; but when she doesn't understand something she asks as many questions as she possibly can to get clarification. she would much rather have a teacher mark her work so she can learn from her mistakes.

casey placed her paper on the desk infront of her without looking. her eyes were locked on the heart she was doodling on her desk. casey definitely was nowhere near being an artist, but you could always find her drawing small shapes on her desks.

suddenly a paper slid onto her desk covering the heart she was filling in. jeff atkins read the top left hand corner. casey looked up and realized jeff atkins sat infront of her. her mind raced with thoughts. does he always sit infront of me? how did i miss this? she missed it because she only focuses on two things in class, the board, and her paper. now she wishes she had just once payed attention to his head. she would most likely be able to identify it as the back of jeff's head.

the girl observed his answers. clay had told her jeff's a good kid but he can be a little slow with picking things up. despite that casey was impressed, he had gotten atleast half of the questions right.

this class could be her one excuse to talk to him, she could just tap him and discuss one of the questions he had got wrong. her hand was getting closer to his shoulder, but before she could tap him he turned around.

"is this a nine or a four?" he asked. casey stared at her paper. "nine." she replied looking into his eyes hoping to stare for a few more seconds, but he had thanked her and turned back around. the truth was, both kids were terrified to talk to eachother.

what's that? jeff atkins scared to talk to girls? impossible! yes jeff was a popular guy and had girls drooling over him everyday, but jeff didn't like those girls. all of them chased after his looks, popularity, or both. but casey felt different to him.

casey had reached out her arm to tap him again. this time she would talk to him, this time she would have longer to stare at him. but once again the boy turned before she could do anything.

"you got all of these right, i mean i'm pretty sure you did. i'm not too good with calculus, or any math subject." he said handing casey her paper back. "well you did pretty good, you got half right." she said as she returned his worksheet.

"really?" jeff asked. "i know half isn't good but, this is great!" he said with excitement. casey was amazed. if she were to get one question wrong she would bawl her eyes out, this boy has gotten half of his questions right and was beaming.

jeff had smiled at the girl one more time before turning back around. and just like that class was over, her only time with jeff was gone. casey gathered her things and was headed out the classroom before being stopped by a hand on her shoulder.

jeff tried to grab his things as fast as he could and raced out of his seat to catch up to casey, but when she turned around he had nothing to say.

when casey saw jeff she felt butterflies. please don't tell me i forgot my pencil in there. please give him an actual reason to talk to me. but now as she thought of it, she would rather have him talking to her for no reason than not talking at all.

"your names casey right?" he asked, casey replied with a nod of her head. the boy rubbed his temple. "that was a stupid question. of course i know your name it was on your paper, and i follow your instagram." he said.

a small laugh escaped casey's mouth. "i don't know i guess i just wanted to talk to you." he said scratching the back of his head. "wow the jeff atkins wants to talk to me?" a sarcastic tone in the girl's voice.

"believe it! take advantage of it now because if my friends come around i gotta pretend like i don't know you." he joked. both of them shared a laugh. and to think casey thought he was just a regular jock. but he wasn't. he was different, he was special. he made her feel good.

the pair's laugh was interrupted by jessica who had came up behind casey. "ugh i would hate to interrupt you two but i really need to talk to casey!" she held onto casey's shoulders before jeff had nodded and moved out the way for the two girls to walk past him.

jessica dragged an upset casey to her locker. "what was that for i was talking to him!" she exclaimed. "i know, but you gotta leave him wanting more." jessica said. "he's staring at you right now."

casey attempted to turn around but was stopped by jessica grabbing both her shoulders. "no! you need him wanting more." she repeated. "but i don't care about that i just want to talk to him!" casey groaned.

"you'll thank me later." jessica said as casey rolled her eyes. "you owe me!" casey yelled as jessica skipped down the hall. "i'll buy you a hot chocolate!" she replied.
