casey ran down the stairs and into the hallway. she slid her feet into her sneakers and bent down to tie them. "my friend's here mom! love you!" she yelled out before exiting the house and jogging to jeff's car.
no way was casey asking her mom if she could go to a party. a simple lie stating that casey was studying at her friend's house let her out of the house tonight. casey rarely found herself lieing to her mom, which is why ms. drenova always believed her daughter.
jeff had already started talking before casey even closed the car door. that's what she liked most about him, there was never silence. the two would always be talking.
"are you excited?" he asked right as casey opened the car door. she gave him a confused look as she sat down. "for what a house party thrown by the worst person on earth?"
"it's pretty easy to avoid bryce at his own partys, he's always taking girls up to his room." jeff said as he began driving. "those poor girls, what do they even see in him? i mean has bryce ever had an actual girlfriend? all he does is treat girls like shit."
jeff took his eyes off the wheel. "if he ever does, or says something to you, tell me." he said. "please." he placed his eyes back on the road. "i will, don't worry." she said in a calmer tone.
casey had thankfully never talked to bryce at school. she'd seen him in the hallways many times but avoids him and walks the other way. she always questions zach, montgomery, and justin why they hang out with him but they always shrug their shoulders and change the topic. luckily, when casey moved to town the boys rarely found themselves hanging around bryce.
the car pulled up to an empty spot in bryce's enormous driveway. jeff exited his car and walked to the passenger side hoping to open the door for casey but she was already out. he wrapped his arm around her waist without saying anything, but she wanted it there. she didn't want him to leave her; especially at a party thrown by bryce.
the front porch was occupied by multiple football and basketball players, all of them; drunk. "he's probably inside so we should stay out back." jeff yelled over the loud music that could be heard from six blocks away. he led her to the backyard which was bigger than any room in casey's house.
immediately jeff spotted clay, and casey spotted hannah. the two shared a look; already knowing what they were going to do. as jeff ran to clay, casey walked over to hannah.
"so, why aren't you with clay? or should i say, helmet?" she asked. hannah gave her the look. "come on! go talk to him! don't be so awkward! you two talk all the time but at a party you're strangers?" casey said.
"you my friend are late, and correct!" jessica wrapped her arm around casey. clearly she was drunk. "hannah go get your prince charming!" jessica said.
hannah looked over at clay who gave her a smile. "i can't, he's with jeff." she looked down at her shoes. "not anymore." casey said turning around. "jeff!" she yelled pointing her eyes to hannah. jeff got the message and left clay without even saying one word.
"there you go." jessica pushed hannah in clays direction. the two girls observed clay and hannah. "what do you think they're talking about?" casey asked. jessica sighed. "that is not our priority now!"
"right now i need you to talk to your prince charming." she slurred on some of her words. casey took a glance at jeff, who was playing beer pong. "we're just friends." i wish we were more is what casey wanted to follow that statement by.
"friends, but both of you want more." jessica said reading casey's mind. "so i'm going to go get another drink, and you are going to talk to jeff." she said.
"not so fast." justin came up behind jessica throwing his arm around her shoulder. "you've had too much to drink." he stated. "so have you!" jessica whined. "i can control myself when i'm drunk." he replied.
"but, casey does need to talk to jeff; so let's leave her alone." he smiled in caseys direction. she took a deep breath as she turned around to face the pool table.
this time he wasn't focused on the game, he was focused on her. as their eyes met he quickly turned his head and returned to the game. casey took another deep breath before deciding to head over to jeff.
