You had only worked with the BAU for briefly 6 months now, You had moved over to Quantico, Virginia just a few months prior. You had earned your degree in college, for criminology and psychology. That was your first step to your moving success.
You joined the BAU not long after finding a shabby apartment downtown. You weren't too bothered by that, though. It was small, with just the one bedroom. But there is only one of you, so you never perceived this as an issue.
The team were lovely, every single one so welcoming. You had gotten particularly close with Penelope Garcia, she was vibrant and bold.
JJ was amazing, too. She's smart, witty, even.
Not to mention Derek Morgan, the ultimate badass of the team, a bit of a prankster, but full of information you was almost certain the BAU couldn't survive without.
Hotch and Rossi, being your bosses, more or less, acted more fatherly to everyone in the team. You noticed this.
Oh, and how could you forget? Spencer Reid. Dr Spencer Reid. Boy wonder, boy genius.
You were trying your best to find the words to describe Spencer Reid.
He's unfathomable and he's clever. Not to mention the good looks, but that would be totally unprofessional. He struck your interest as soon as you started working with the Behavioural Analysis Unit, intrigued you. Even that's an understatement. You can't even string the right words together to explain your emotions.
All of these thoughts race through your mind as you stood by the mirror, tilting and turning to get the best view of your dress as possible. You were headed to Rossi's, for his 'annual' New Years party. Of course this was your first. It was long, black satin that fitted snug with a slit up the thigh and thin spaghetti straps.
Deciding on some nude heels to complement the dress and legs, you grab your bag and walked happily over to the door.
Once you arrived at Rossi's house, you knocked a good few times, your mind racing, for no particular reason. You entered once the door was swung open, smiling wide as you saw the team.
JJ had her children with her, and many had brought their significant others. Of course, excluding you and Reid.
"You know, The first New Year was celebrated 4,000 years by the ancient Babylonians."
You heard Spencer state.A small smile tugged at the corner of your lips at this, adoring all of his facts. You observed that he was wearing black slacks, with a khaki button down shirt, followed by a beige coloured tie. The sleeves were rolled up, exposing his forearms, and he had a watch clasped around his slim wrist. His brown hair was slightly ruffled, in the best way.
You turned to him, leaning your hip gently into the counter.
"What else?" You questioned, genuinely fairly curious. You also strived to hear his voice again, the happiness laced within his words when he speaks the facts he was so proud of knowing.
"New Years kiss. Historians would date the practice back to the Ancient Romans. They would throw a huge celebration called the Festival of Saturnalia, where they would kiss, also more," he explained.
You laughed softly and nodded your head in reply, brushing a strand of silky hair behind your ear as you absorbed everything he was saying, appreciating his intelligence and confidence.
"Sorry for rambling-" he finished, resulting in you shaking your head.
"Not at all. This is all new to me," You chimed, making an adorable smile spread across his handsome features.
The time passed, you wound up having spent most of your night engaging in conversation with Spencer, really.
The both of you discussed everything you could probably imagine, and your personal favourite topic was books. You exchanged your favourites and why, agreeing the both of you should head down to the library one day together.
Everyone is a nerd for something. He was a nerd for everything and it was unquestionably intriguing.
As midnight deemed closer, it seemed as you and Spencer were both very aware that everyone else was enjoying the company of their significant others, wanting to bring in the New Year with them.
"New year has always baffled me. It's only a concept of time, I'm not too sure why it's so important," You suddenly said while taking a light sip from your wine glass.
"Actually-" Spencer spoke, but is interrupted by the sound of the team and others chanting from ten.
You look to the TV, as everyone huddles.
"Nine, eight, seven..." they trailed off, becoming an echo as every couple huddled together for the famous 'New Years Kiss.'"One!" They yelled simultaneously.
You took a sip of your red wine, staining your lips a deep crimson. You felt a pair of eyes gazing intensely at the side of your face. You glanced to the side, seeing Spencer with a sheepish expression.
"Happy-" You began to cheer, however were completely caught off guard when two large hands gripped your waist feverishly and respectfully.
Spencer pulled you into him, your hips met his with side contact.
He leant down, and your heart was pounding so heavily against your chest that there is no way he couldn't hear it, so you thought.
Your long, dark lashes fluttered closed as a pair of soft, plush lips connected deeply with yours.
You set your glass down suddenly. You loosely snaked your arms around his neck, your soft fingertips played with the bottom of his tousled hair as your lips moved together in sync, both yours and Spencer's heads tilted the opposite way to one another.
You hesitantly withdrew, exhaling a light breath. You opened your eyes, fixating them on his. Both of your cheeks turned a light shade of pink, a nervous giggle parting through your lips.
It was so unlike Spencer to do something so brave, especially with others around. However, you were not at all complaining.
"Happy New Year, Spence," You muttered.
"Happy New Year." He whispered back in return, his voice tender and sweet, as it usually is.
When you felt his large, warm hand clasp around yours, with your fingers entwining, you giggled again, you couldn't stop.
You and Spencer called an expeditious 'Happy New Year' to everyone encompassing the TV in the living room, before the both of you hastily slipped through the glass doors and outside to the back yard.
Neither of you could see many fireworks from here, but it didn't matter. You had a better view.
You and Spencer took a comfortable seat together on the edge of the wall in Rossi's back yard, your back pressed to his chest, his arms enclosed around your waist as you nuzzle into him, feeling the tingles that rushed through your body.
You stared upwards to the sky, sighing in complete content as he rested his soft cheek upon your temple, both yours and Spencer's intense gaze fixated on the bright, twinkling stars.
"Spence?" You murmured softly, breaking the silence the both of you sat in.
"Yes?" He questioned lightly in response, the pad of his thumb lightly massaging the palm of your hand.
"Tell me about the stars." You whispered, biting your lower lip to try and suppress your smile increasingly getting wider.
His lips grazed across the exposed skin of your shoulder as he chuckled, before nodding.
"There are 88 constellations in the sky," he began...
