"What's wrong?" I asked the doctor.

"Well, you're going to have to be in a cast for longer than I thought." He said.

"What do you mean? How long?"

"About 5 months." He sighed and looked at me.

"What?" I asked after my jaw dropped. "Why?!?"

"When I looked at the x-ray, it revealed that you have more than one bone that's broken. About 6 bones in your foot are broken." He looked at me sadly. "I'm sorry Ms. Riley."

I just looked at the floor in shock. I can't believe I'm going to have to wear a cast for six months. I've never had to wear any kind of cast before.

"We're going to have to wrap the cast around your foot. It might hurt a little, but hopefully not much." He said.

I was scared. It hurt to even barely move my toe. It was going to hurt a lot if he had to wrap something around my ankle.

"When?" I asked.

"Right now if you want. I'll bring the supplies." He walked out and shut the door.

"Great." I sighed.

"Don't worry, it'll be fine." My mom said.

"No, it's going to hurt like hell." I said.

"Watch your language!"

"Sorry mom."

I looked at Aaron who was just staring at the floor.

The doctor walked in and we all looked up. He had a couple other doctors with him. He also had the stuff you use to wrap casts.

He walked over to me and talked to me about how long it would take and stuff. Then he grabbed my ankle and lifted it up.

"Ouch!" I yelled. It hurt so bad. I frowned and tried not to think about it.

"Squeeze my hand when it hurts." Aaron said. He held out his hand to me.

I'm so glad he's here. He's my best friend. He always makes everything better. Even when I'm in terrible pain he can still make me smile.

I smiled and took his hand in mine.

The doctor put my foot back down and walked over to the counter. He grabbed the wrap and brought it back over to the bed. He lifted my ankle and started wrapping it around in circles.

I smiled and took his hand in mine.

The doctor brought the supplies over and sat it down. He frowned at my ankle for a few seconds and then he lifted it again. He started to wrap it up.

It hurt so bad. I tried not to yell. I squeezed Aaron's hand and silently screamed.

"It's ok. Just focus on me. Focus on squeezing my hand." Aaron whispered looking up at me.

"Ok." I said.

I squeezed his hand again just as the doctor was finishing the wrapping. Once he was done he gently sat my ankle back down.

I didn't let go of Aaron's hand. I kept holding it. My foot was still throbbing with pain and I was afraid I was going to yell really loud.

The doctor started filling out a form. Then he handed a copy to my mom. "You'll have to give this to the lady at the front desk." He said. "As for you Riley, you're going to have to use this wheel chair for the first few days. Then you can switch to crutches."

"Fine." I said.

He smiled at us and then left the room.

"Ok let's go guys." Becky said.

Aaron picked me up and sat me in the wheel chair. He wheeled me out to the front desk along with my mom and Becky. We handed them the form and then started to go to the car.

Once we got to the car, Aaron lifted me in the back seat and then folded the wheel chair and put it in the trunk. It didn't really hurt anymore when he lifted me up. I guess the cast really helped it stay stiff.

He got in beside me and shut the door.

We drove home. Aaron lives in the same neighborhood. Actually he's my next door neighbor.

We pulled into my driveway and everyone helped me into the house. All the decorations were still up.

I wanted to go to my room and sleep it off. Especially considering that it was 10:00pm already. Then I realized something. I can't make it up the stairs.

"Um, how am I going to get to my room?" I asked my mom.

"I'll carry you." Aaron said.

I smiled and agreed.

He lifted me and carried me upstairs. We finally made it to my room. He sat my on my bed and then sat down beside me.

"Hey, I want to thank you for helping me out so much today." I said.

"Well, it's the least I can do. You broke your ankle because of me." He sighed.

"No I didn't. Stop saying that. It was my fault not yours. Stop blaming yourself." I told him.

"I know, I just can't help but feel like it's at least part my fault."

"It's not. I promise." I leaned over and hugged him again.

"I honestly don't know what I would do without you. You're my best friend. And I couldn't ask for a better one." I said with my face against his shoulder.

"I don't know what I would do without you either Riley. I've known you for so long and i'd do anything for you." He said.

I smiled even though he couldn't see me. We were still hugging.

"I love you Aaron." I said.

"I love you too Riley." He pulled away and gently kissed my cheek.

"Goodnight." And then he walked out of the door...
