"Dada..." the little girl stretched her arms towards him, her eyes—exactly the same deep blue as his—burning straight into his soul.
"Dada..." she began to whine, practically begging him to reach out and carry her. All Vince could do was shakily manoeuvre the wheelchair closer to the pair in front of him. Yet he paused as he saw Gabrielle stepping back, her hollow cheekbones taut, her well-defined jaw set with both thrill and fear, tears streaking her flawless skin as she stared at him. Even in her fear, her beauty captivated him—every sharp contour of her face, every quiver of her lips, made his pulse spike despite the storm of anger and confusion inside him.
She shook her head before looking at the now-crying little girl.
"I'm sorry..." she whispered, brushing the child's temple, and quickly walked away. Vincent gripped the armrest of the wheelchair as if to pursue her, but his weak knees betrayed him.
"Daaaaaaaaaaada!!!" the little girl cried, twisting towards him as her mother carried her away. She ignored her pleas, arms outstretched in desperation.
"Gabrielle Davis...!" he whispered angrily, watching her back slowly fade as she entered the room beside his therapy suite.
The child... he still hadn't confirmed if this child had been beside him all this time!
"You witch...!" he seethed. How could she have hidden her from him?! With uncontrolled anger, he slammed his fist on the armrest before gripping the controls once again.
He was about to drive the wheelchair forward to follow them when it suddenly halted.
Vincent immediately looked up to find a pair of lake-green eyes fixed on his face. His hands rested on the handles of the power wheelchair. The tall man stepped in front of him, irritating Vincent even further.
"You know what, Walton...?" Adrijan Thorne leaned close, one arm resting on the armrest while the other gripped Vincent's wrist above the opposite armrest.
"I regret ever telling you where to find Gabby. After everything you've done... and continue to do... the biggest mistake I made was letting you hurt her... again." He straightened, shaking his head in disapproval and disgust.
"Don't you dare lay another finger on Gabrielle... unless you want to spend the rest of your life in this goddamn wheelchair." To drive him even crazier, Adrijan kicked the wheelchair's tyres, making it shift slightly, before walking away to follow the woman carrying his child.
Vincent breathed hard, throwing an angry glare towards the door, rubbing his face in frustration.
That little girl was his daughter...! She was not Adrijan's—he was certain of that. The bastard had green eyes, but the child had his deep blue ones.
Apart from the obvious, Vincent felt a strange recognition in his bones, recalling the girl's laughter, her face... and just minutes ago, her cries when Gabrielle had dragged her away. His paternal instincts kicked in, making his heart race as if it would burst.
The girl may have shared Gabrielle's features—pointed nose, devil-red lips, thick eyebrows, hollow cheekbones, and well-defined jaw—but no one could deny the deep blue eyes she shared with him. Even amidst his anger, he found himself mesmerised by Gabrielle's beauty—the way her face seemed carved with precision, how every tear accentuated her perfect contours. She had always been breathtaking, and now, even as frustration and rage boiled in his veins, he couldn't stop the fierce admiration stabbing at him.
Vincent remained frozen, rubbing his face repeatedly before finally deciding to follow them. He had to know. He had to see his child again. If Gabrielle thought she could hide her from him for so long, she was wrong.
