"Be careful what you wish for... because you might just get it..."
Vincent had wished for closeness. For warmth. For Gabrielle's heartbeat pressed against his. That night, he had received it—but in ways far more complex than he could have imagined.
He remembered the moment she first leaned into him, her body stiff, trembling as if even the air around her might shatter her. Her hair fell in soft waves around her face, catching the light from the bedside lamp—soft brown strands framing features that seemed impossibly delicate, impossibly beautiful, even in her fear. The rise and fall of her chest, the subtle curve of her lips as they trembled, the way her eyes darted briefly before closing in surrender—every detail burned into his mind.
At first, he hadn't understood it.
Her fear.
Her hesitation.
The way she would tense even when he touched her gently, the way her eyelashes fluttered like a trapped bird. His amnesia had erased the truth; he hadn't known the depth of the wound he'd left on her life. All he saw then was a woman trying to trust a man she seemed afraid of—for reasons he couldn't grasp.
Her reactions guided him. A shiver. A soft gasp. Fingers pressing into his chest, then retreating. Tiny movements of hesitation, the flicker of her lashes, the quiver of her jaw. Each one was a language he had to learn from the beginning, a map back to her trust. And with every motion, every nuance, he saw her beauty—not only her physical form, but the courage it took for her to let herself be near him at all.
When her body tensed, he paused. When she leaned toward him, seeking the smallest touch, he pressed slow, reverent kisses along her temple and jawline. He whispered her name, letting the sound settle around her like a promise. Even her fear had a kind of grace—fragile elegance in the way she braced and then softened, in the delicate rise and fall of her chest, the slight quivering of her shoulders. She was breathtaking, even in pain.
He remembered the tiny tears she tried to suppress, streaking silently down her cheeks. He brushed them away, pressed soft kisses to her hairline, murmuring that she was safe. Each tear, each flutter of her hands, each hesitant sigh spoke to him of her history, her trauma, and the bravery required to trust him again. And through it all, she remained beautiful—ethereal in the moonlight, her features soft, luminous, alive even in her trembling.
And as he touched her—gently, reverently, as if she were something delicate he was painting with the lightest strokes—he admired her. The smoothness of her skin beneath his fingertips. The soft lines of her hips, her waist, her thighs and her very core. The way her breath caught when he kissed lower along her body, tracing her with the devotion of a man worshipping something sacred. Every inch of her felt like a canvas, and he moved with the slow, careful awe of an artist afraid of damaging what he adored.
Then his eyes fell on the faint, silvery scar across her lower abdomen. His breath caught. A C-section. She had carried their daughter into the world through pain and courage he had never fully appreciated until this moment.
Tenderly, he pressed a gentle kiss to the scar...then down his lips traveled to grace her very core with soft kisses until he gave in to the need of tasting her.
God! How soft she felt against his lips... how sweet she tasted on his tongue, and how delicate she looked—like a newly bloomed cherry blossom in the height of spring.
She responded in small ways—barely audible breaths, the slightest tilt of her hips, fingers curling against his shoulders as though torn between fear and longing. Her delicate beauty intensified with every soft sigh, every hesitant shiver. She was smooth, warm, tender—like something too exquisite to touch, yet somehow allowing him to.
She melted into his embrace, letting herself be carried by the warmth of his lips and the devotion in his touch. Every gentle kiss and caress sent shivers through her, and for the first time in so long, she allowed herself to completely surrender—to trust him, to be safe in his arms. Her body trembled with the intensity of emotion, and a wave of relief and peace washed over her as she clung to him, her heart racing as his lips continued nipping, his tongue teasing her very core.
