"I feel like I'm waiting for something that isn't going to happen."

The next day, I woke up late in the morning. The alcohol I had consumed made my head hurt. A small smile played on my lips as I recalled the previous night's events.
Alex had allowed me to live a moment where I was happy and at peace. The threats that always seemed to linger around hadn't appeared to darken my solitude in those few hours. But it soon dawned upon me that, yesterday I had put myself in danger by going out with Alex, who was nought but a stranger; even though he seemed like a genuinely kind gentleman. It was not safe to just roam around defenseless. Thankfully the night had been calm, yet it had been a risk.I groggily cleaned up and made a short trip to the grocery to buy a few supplies for lunch. I cooked up lunch and ate alone, as I watched TV. Eva had still not arrived from last night, I was beginning to wonder how long she was going to take until she showed up.
At around 3 o'clock, I got dressed to go visit the office to sign off my employment contract. It was then when Eva finally decided to come home. She was wearing the same clothes she had worn last night, she had a weird dreamy smile on her face. As she walked in she didn't notice me sitting on the couch and proceeded to her room dreamily. I cleared my throat loudly making her jump and face me, after a moment she broke into a wide toothy grin. She threw her clutch and rushed over to me, she grabbed me up from the couch and spun me around before hugging me tightly.
"Can't. Brea-th." I managed to squeeze out as she crushed me in her embrace.
"Sorry." She quickly let go and smiled widely.
"Well?" I urged her, arching my eyebrows.
"Oh, Cassie. You can't imagine how great he was." Eva plopped onto the sofa. "He is the sweetest man I have ever met. His eyes." She shut her eyes in a blissful manner. "I could drown in those deep green eyes. He was so gentle, so loving. He was so deep."
"Okay. I'm out of here. I'm happy things worked out between the two of you, but I'm not interested in the details." I said as I walked around to grab my bag. "I've kept food for you. Freshen up and have something. I'm going to the office. See you later."In no time, I was at the Bayview Hotel. I visited the office and signed my contract of employment. I met my boss, who was the General Manager. His name was Daniel Samuels, he was a young man in his mid-thirties. He was very friendly and welcoming. He gave me a short tour around the hotel and the office. I had a few people who would be reporting to me; the Reservations Manager, the Chief Operator, Night Manager and the Service Manager. The Front desk clerk, concierge, night auditors, bellmen and security, reported to me as well. He showed me my office that was on the first floor. It was a spacious space that was shared by the Front Office staff.
Even though it was a weekend the Front Office operation were still on. I introduced myself to my colleagues and got to know everyone's name and their job profiles. They all were quite friendly and hospitable.I made friends with two of the girls. Mia Adler, who was a bubbly girl in her mid twenties; she was the Reservations Manager. And Laylah James, she was about my age; she was the Service Manager. They both were very friendly and easy to get along with. The first meeting gave me a sense of hope and belonging. It made me feel confident about the job. It made me look forward to Monday. The day when I would officially join the company.

Monday came around faster than I expected it to.
Right now, I was standing in front of the Hotel. I was dressed in formal clothes that we had newly bought. I wore black trousers with a salmon pink shirt and a navy-blue blazer. My hair was tied up in a ponytail. I had put on mascara and lip gloss. I was feeling very anxious. I had a large gap between my working periods; hence, I was worried about delegating and carrying out my leadership roles. Most importantly, I didn't want to disappoint Grace. She had put faith in me and I didn't want to let her down.
