Chapter 21 - DAY 4

It's half way through the holiday and this morning we are told we aren't going to a park so we can use this day doing anything we like. Me Jack and Casey wake up early and go straight downstairs to get a full American breakfast. I browse the hundreds of types of egg, and meats until I finally decide on pancakes, bacon and syrup. My absolute favourite.

We talk about what we are going to do the rest of the day, and being the lazy people we are; decide to stay by the pool for the day. Our hotel was more of a apart-hotel so it had shops and cafe's within the premises; so we're BASICALLY going out. The first thing we do is put our towels on 3 sun beds so no one else can take them before rushing to the shop to buy something fun. We end up buying the biggest lilo you can get. As we run back to the pool we giggle with excitement; when will we age?

We float around the pool for a while, laughing and talking about God knows what; until Casey says she's going to sunbathe for a bit. Me and Jack stay on the lilo and talk some more. I close my eyes as I listen to Jack talking about how excited he is to be starting fresh at our school; and how things will be normal again now he's back. I smile to myself, thinking of how it will be like the good old days; until I'm instantly snatched from my thoughts. I feel a cold sensation on my stomach as I shoot my eyes open.

Jack holds himself up in front of me, a cheeky grin on his face. I look at him and raise and eyebrow before splashing him back in the face. He wipes his eyes as his face grows more mischievous. He grabs on to the side of the float. "Jack? JACK NO. SHIT" before I can scream anymore I'm thrown in to the cold but refreshing pool below. I push myself back up to the surface, laughing like an idiot. I begin to cough from laughing so much and Jack is instantly by my side; rubbing my back, a worried expression plastered on his face.

I continue to cough before grinning widely, he furrows his brow before I grab his neck and push him under the water. Before I know it his arms are around my legs and I'm under he water with him. I open my eyes to see him staring back at me, his hair delicately floating above him in the water. "You. Fucking. Jerk." I gurgle as clearly as I can in water, before bubbles cover my face from laughing hysterically.

I see him bob to the top and i follow, still laughing when I reach the surface. He's laughing with me, clearing understanding what I had said. He puts me on his back as I smile from cheek to cheek before holding my breath. He goes to the bottom of the pool; while I hold on to his broad shoulders. We always did this when we were young, in his grans pool in her garden. I'd make him swim around with me on his back so I could pretend I was riding a dolphin, which was my favourite animal for most of my childhood.

We get out the pool at lie on sun beds next to each other, sharing earphones. Jack puts his playlist on which is fine by me since we like the same sort of music. We sing along to each song and laugh at each other's terrible voices. Just as I'm thinking how good of a day this has been so far; something ruins it.

Joshua and the tall brunette, come in to the pool area arm in arm. I scoff as I see her strutting around in the skimpiest bikini, and 10 layers of makeup. Although she looks fabulous, I look down at my plain red swimming costume and begin to feel underdressed and boring.

I look away and hum to myself, trying not to look at all interested. I can feel Joshua's gaze on me out the corner of my eye; but before I have time to glance over I'm being lifted in to the sky. Jacks strong arms carry me over to the hot tub at the side of the pool and gently put me down. He sits a comfortable distance away and begins playing with the bubbles. I look at him in admiration, taking in all of his innocence and childlike behaviour. He sits back, showing his hard abs; and all of a sudden he looks a lot older.

We sit relaxing, chatting about childhood memories. Like when my dad had built me a treehouse and Jack would bring his friend round and lock me and Casey out. After a while id cry and he'd feel bad, pulling me in to the hut and talking to me until I was crying again; this time with laughter. Then the times when we were a bit older and he would make me watch a horror film but I'd be traumatised; hiding under his blanket. After the film I wouldn't want to sleep in a room on my own, so he'd let me sleep in his bed; telling me he would always keep me safe from the monsters.

Talking about growing up really makes me think about if it's worth throwing away such a great friendship for a couple of meaningless kisses?

I feel the water vibrate and look up to find Joshua taking a seat at the other side of me. Jack scowls at him as he scoots closer; I slide closer to Jack, away from Joshua. Jack smirks and Joshua looks between us; genuinely hurt. I exit the hot tub quickly, saying I'm going to have some time alone in the cafe because of a bad head. I jog away; knowing they probably both know I'm just trying to escape the awkward situation.

As soon as I reach the cafe I feel my phone buzz from underneath me.

Joshua: Ren please don't shut me out, I just need to talk to you.

Me: Joshua you've got a girlfriend, please leave me alone.

Joshua: no i haven't. I told you it wasn't working, I broke up with her a couple of hours ago.

Me: oh. Sorry.

Joshua: why are you sorry? It just means I've got more time to admire you;)

I throw up in my mouth as I read the last text; but can't help smirk to myself knowing he's being completely sarcastic.

Me: I mean there's a lot to admire.

As I hit send I hear footsteps behind me. "There definitely is" a low voice says from beside me, before I hear the famous chuckle.

Hey guys! I know nothing THAT interesting happened this chapter but then again, she can't have a intimate encounter everyday?! I'm so excited to write more as I've got an idea of where the story is heading! Thanks for reading.
