“Here it is” I announce while dropping my bag on the wooden floor.
“It’s really nice” Liam says, being nice as usual.
The bungalow’s medium sized and fits us all comfortably. My mum’s house is just across the street, which is going to be handy considering that there’s going to be five hungry teenage boys in here for a week.
Liam, Zayn, and Niall are outside checking around the place while I try to sort out the sleeping arrangements. Louis’ on the couch texting.
“I found a football!” Niall’s voice is heard from outside.
“Do you play?” Louis looks at me.
“Yeah, a little” I admit. “I’m shit though”
“I’ll teach you” Louis smiles before going back to texting. A few seconds later his loud laugh echoes in the room. It’s such a lovely sound that I become curious. I want to make him laugh like that.
“What’s so funny?” I attempt to sound nonchalant but fail.
“Oh nothing. Just something Hannah said” he laughs.
“Hannah?” her name leaves my mouth before I can think.
“Hannah. You know, my girlfriend, Hannah.” He says it as if it’s something obvious. He probably notices my confused expression so he continues “didn’t I tell you about her? I thought I did. Oh well.”
“Yeah” I let out a weak laugh. He has a girlfriend? Hannah. I can’t help but think she’s awful. I bet she just got together with him because he was auditioning for the X Factor.
“Anyway, she was just telling me a thing my mate Stan did while he was shitfaced.”
“Yeah” I simply state. “I’m gonna walk to my mum’s to get some food for the fridge. Do you want to come?”
“Uh, no thanks. Hannah’s expecting a call” he rolls his eyes with a smile. “You know how girls are”
“Um. Yeah” I walk out the door before he can say anything else. He has a girlfriend? Ugh. Of course he has, why wouldn’t girls be all over him? He’s perfect. I should be happy for him, he’s happy and I should be glad that my friend is in a good relationship. Just thinking about how he laughed makes me smile as I cross the street.
I don’t bother knocking; my mum’s expecting impromptu visits during the whole week.
“Harry?” she calls from the kitchen
“Yes, it’s me” I call back and make my way to the kitchen.
“Is everything going well?” she asks while pulling out a batch of cookies from the oven.
“Of course, mum. What did you expect? Fighting?” I smile and reach over to grab a cookie.
“Those are for after dinner” she scolds while taking the cookie away from me.
I pout, but she pretends not to notice. “Well, yes. I mean you barely know each other. It’s natural to have clashes. All groups fights.”
“We’re not in that stage yet. I think we’re still in the ‘shy’ stage where we’re trying to be extra nice to each other” especially Louis.
Hannah
Ugh.
“That’s good, then.”
I nod, while putting the food in bags.
“Robin’s getting more groceries, so if you boys need anything don’t hesitate to come and ask for it.”
“Thanks mum” I kiss her cheek before going upstairs to get a flashlight and some blankets.
When I get back, the boys are trying to convince Zayn to go for a swim in the pool.
“Hell no! I can’t even swim” Zayn argues
“Oh c’mon. Everyone knows how to swim. What would you do if you fell into the sea or something?” Louis counters
“I’d most probably die” Zayn says thoughtfully and niall starts laughing. I can’t hide my laugh before they all turn to me.
“He’s back!” Niall exclaims
“Where were you?” Liam eyes the bag of food in my hand.
“I was getting some food from the house. I told Louis”
He looks at Louis, who just shrugs his shoulders.
“I thought I’d cook tonight.” I like cooking and it’s a good excuse to show off my skills.
“Sure” Liam goes back and sits at the table.
“Well, I’m going for a swim” niall announces while taking his shirt off.
“You up for a little one-on-one Liam?” Zayn asks
“It’s on” Liam says, while following Zayn to the garden.
I’m left alone with Louis once again.
Great.
“Do you need any help?” he asks while following me to the small kitchen.
“No, I’m good. You can go play football with them.” I say without looking at him.
“Harry”
I look up at the sound of my name.
“Are you…uh…are you mad at me? Did I do anything?”
Did he? No, of course not. What’s wrong with me?
“No, I’m just a bit tired” I sigh.
“Oh okay” his smile is uncertain but once I smile back, it widens.
“well then” he continues “let Chef Tommo help you” he stands next to me in front of the sink and bumps his hip to mine.
“Fine” I chuckle. “But wash your hands first”
He scoffs but complies.
