When the storms hit

I was laughing at some of the comments I got on the last part. The hate towards Miss Atama went just as well as I hoped. I was trying to make her seem like a b****. And clearly, I had. 😁
On to part 2!

Ezra pulled the last of the cobwebs down. He had been working all day in the attic. He had woken up at six, hoping to get a majority of it done before evening.
But now it was five in the evening. And working alone, it was only half done.
With a sigh of impatience, Ezra moved to the windowsill. He looked out across the town. Seeing kids with their parents.
He longed for he and Sabine to have their parents back. That's all he wanted.
As he scanned the town he caught sight of the sky.
Dark clouds were moving across it quickly.
A storm was brewing and he didn't like the looks of it.
The door banged open.
Ezra jumped and swung round.
He saw Sabine standing there, slightly out of breath.

"Miss Atama just sent me" she gasped.

"She's invited friends round and she wants dinner cooked now."

"I'm a little busy Sabine" Ezra replied but got off the sill anyway.

"I know. I know. But you know what happens when we disobey her" Sabine bit her lip.
Ezra shuddered slightly. He did know. He'd been whipped and hit many times by the foul woman when he did something wrong.

"Well. Did she say what she wanted cooked?" He asked coming towards his sister.

"She said a pasta bake and salad. But her friends will be arriving in half an hour so we'd better get cracking" Sabine replied.
Ezra followed her to the kitchen.

The Bridger siblings were quite a sight in the kitchen. Seven year olds chopping, stirring, and preparing food on the bench and stove.
Ezra, who had good experience with pasta, handled it while Sabine made the salad.
It wasn't long before Miss Atama came storming in.

"Hows it coming?" She snapped.

"Almost ready miss. The salad is prepared and the pasta is almost ready to come out of the oven" Sabine reported.

"Well good. And when my friends come round, I want you two in your bedroom. You're not to come down and interrupt us for any reason. Understood?"
Sabine and Ezra glanced at one another.

"Yes miss" Ezra replied bitterly.

"Mind your tone Bridger" Miss Atama spat.

"You mind your tone lady" Ezra retorted.
Sabine held her breath as Miss Atama's nostrils flared.
She knew her brother had gone to far.

In two strides, Miss Atama was standing in front of Ezra.

"Never speak to me like that" she snarled.

Her hand shot out and slapped it against Ezra's face. The boy grunted in pain and fell to the floor.

"I want the table set, and dishes out in five minutes. If not, you'll have worse punishment."
The headmistress stormed out the door and slammed it behind her.

Sabine immediately crouched beside her brother and helped him sit up.

"You okay?" She asked worriedly.

"I'll be alright. I've had worse" Ezra replied.
Sabine took his hand away from his face and looked at the red mark.

"We'd better get the table set and all that then put some ice on it."
She light touched the mark making Ezra hiss in pain.

"Sorry" Sabine apologized quickly then helped him up.

"It's okay. Don't worry" Ezra offered her a small smile.
She returned a sad one before moving to the oven.
