Ezra woke early.
He looked over at Sabine who was still sleeping.
Speaking of resting, Scales was curled up on his pillow.
Ezra smiled and decided to leave them both to rest.
He got up and grabbed his sweatshirt.
Pulling it on, he left the room and went down the stairs to the lounge.
Chopper looked up from the couch as Ezra entered.
"Hey Chopper" the boy said.
The cat yawned and got comfortable again.
Ezra rolled his eyes with a small smile.
He went over to the window and opened the curtain.
A breathtaking sunrise was starting.
Ezra sat down and rested his chin on his hand.
Watching the firey red sun rising.
"Ezra?"
The boy nearly jumped out of his skin and swung round.
Kanan was standing there.
"You alright? I went to check in on you and Sabine when I saw your bed empty. You worried me" Kanan said sitting beside the boy.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to. I just woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. Do you normally get up this early?" Ezra asked.
"Most of the time."
"Why?"
"Eh. Just something I do. I like to start the day early. You have more time."
"Fair enough" Ezra agreed.
"Are you feeling okay?" Kanan asked hearing Ezra's note of sadness.
"I'm alright. It's just. Yesterday, I left the orphanage and came here and I've never felt, well, so alive. I've only been here one day and I feel at home. I just can't believe Sabine and I actually managed to get adopted."
"What do you mean? You would have been adopted eventually" Kanan told him.
"I know. But, Miss Atama always told us we were worthless and no one wanted us. We were just two lonely kids in a world that didn't need us."
Kanan felt his anger rise again.
"That what she says. But I think differently. You're not worthless at all Ez. In fact, you have actually got a lot of potential" Kanan said.
"Do you really mean that?" Ezra asked.
"Of course."
Ezra shuffled closer to the man who pulled him into a side hug.
"Thanks dad" he said after a seconds hesitation.
"I'll always be here for you son" Kanan smiled.
