Louis

Louis entered the forest all alone. While everyone else had been celebrating over their successful captures, she had snuck away into the forest alone. She never was a people person, she always preferred nature anyway. Less annoying usually.

Louis examined the scene. A perfect example of what nature really was. Dark, almost gloomy forest with huge patches of tall grass undisturbed by humans. The occasional group of stairs, but it was better than everywhere else - mostly cleared to make routes, towns, and gyms.

Especially gyms. Louis had counted once while she was bored, and the Saffron city gym cost a whopping 1,000 trees to create - not to mention the amount of power that went into powering a single teleporter, not including whatever energy the rest of the building used. Sad, really.

Meanwhile, her mother Erika had been as eco-friendly as possible when designing her gym. The frame? Recycled plastic. Windows? Torn out of some abandoned buildings on the town outskirts. The trees? Taken from Saffron City to save them from the new expansion they had suddenly decided to make. The lights? Nope, no lights, just natural sunlight. Not a single outlet in the whole building. Well, except for one - for the automated sprinklers, but they didn't use that much power.

Louis shook her head. Why was she thinking of these things now? Why not before, when she could have at least told someone about how she felt?

“Whatever.” stated Louis out loud. “It doesn't matter now.” She looked around at the large expansion of trees and felt an eerie chill wash over her. It was almost if the trees were trying to tell her something. “Sorry, I don't speak Tree.” commented Louis. The trees rustled. “Or Rustle.” She chuckled at the absurdity of this conversation.

Reaching behind her, Louis took the two Poké Balls out of her bag and released Frenzy and Rattata.

“Bulb?” asked a concerned Frenzy.

“Yeah, yeah, I know. The forest is pretty creepy, isn't it?” asked Louis.

“Rat.” said Rattata indifferently.

“Well, let's try to get through this forest, okay?” Louis paused. “Together.” And she walked into the gloomy unknown.

Heather

The new friend group of Breeze, Sarge, Heather, Gemma, Parker, Alice, Vera, and Hale walked into the giant forest. They stared nervously at the expanse of trees surrounding them. Alice, Parker, and especially Vera had a look of terror on their face, while Breeze and Hale seemed uneasy.

Heather looked around at Gemma. They seemed to communicate almost telepathically as Gemma spoke Heather's exact thoughts.

“Alright guys, I know this is kind of scary, but we will get through this as a team.”

“And once we get through this, we'll be at our first real city!” added Heather, offering some encouragement to the otherwise dreary group.

“Awesome.” came the sarcastic voice of Hale.

“And, we could get our first gym badge!” added Sarge.

Heather saw Parker and Alice sigh in relief. Gemma and Breeze offered smiles.

“What are we waiting for? Let's go!”

The group cheered and started to walk. Heather caught up to the fast-moving Sarge and poked him on the back. Sarge turned around.

“Oh, hey Heather. Man, you look like you just ran a marathon or something.” quipped Sarge.

Heather replied, still breathing heavily, “Oh, yeah. I'm great. Just wonderful. Except slightly jealous.”
