There are so many Creepypasta romance fanfictions on the internet. Way, way more than any of us could count.
I, for one, love Creepypasta romances.
But. . .
I want to see something more.
My first Slenderman fanfiction was not a romance, mainly because I was inspired to try something different. There are already so many Slenderman romance stories on Wattpad, but hardly any real Slenderman fanfictions.
As much as I like to pretend in my head that Slenderman is what I make him in my books, or what other people make him in their books, the fact still remains that Slenderman was meant to be scary.
He isn't anyone's lover-boy.
He wasn't created because Victor Surge wanted to give the pre-pubescent female population something to write about.
He was always meant to scare us.
In fact, I'm gonna branch out here and say that all Creepypastas were originally meant to scare us.
Don't get me wrong. I completely admire the creativity and the sheer talent of the authors who put time and effort into writing these amazing fanfictions about love, loss, friendship, unity, sex, and all that other good stuff.
But, I still think we need to get back to the roots.
Creepypasta isn't scary to a lot of people anymore, but that's just our own faults really. By writing our fanfictions and reading other fanfictions, Creepypasta characters have become as normal as any other book character in the mainstream media. They've assimilated into pop culture and have become a sort of "too edgy for me" thing that, for some dumb reason, makes people hostile towards Creepypasta lovers.
I honestly doubt that Creepypasta (fanfictions) will ever be scary again.
We're on a serious decline in the amount of quality Creepypastas out there.
The fact that we let trash reproductions like "Nina The Killer" and "Laughing Jill" actually become a serious figures in the fandom is a problem in itself, but continuing to take Pastas that already exist and duplicating them is not cool, and it's certainly not scary either.
Point is, the scary isn't there anymore.
I love writing about sexy Slendermans and possessive Jeff the Killers as much as the next person, but it's not really getting us anywhere in terms of the "creepy" factor that "Creepypasta" is supposed to have.
You could argue that this reformation is true for every fandom, but Creepypasta isn't "every fandom."
It's our fandom.
And we should try to make it as strong, diverse and unique as possible.
So, what can we do about this?
It's simple.
I challenge you to try to write a fanfiction that isn't centered around romance (no CPxCP, CPxReader, etc.). It doesn't even have to be scary (though it would be cool if it was).
Just try something different.
Of course, if you're not inspired to do something different, then don't. Keep writing your romances, your juicy lemons, and all that other fun stuff. No one can put you under for it. You're your own person.
But, like I said, trying something apart from romance could benefit the fandom.
Think about it.
You'll be a pioneer :)
