Once we crossed the border and got farther into Canada I fell silent. I had rarely ever been outside Michigan, let alone the United States. Excitement started to take over the anxious feeling that had made a home in my stomach.

When we were just a twenty minutes outside Toronto, Mr. Matthews' phone rang, which he proceeded to answer on speaker phone.

"How far out are you guys still?" Out came a male's voice through the speaker and there was only one person who that would be. I remained silent as everyone in the car called out a greeting to Auston before Mr. Matthews answered him.

"Just around fifteen minutes. Have you eaten yet? The girls are getting hungry so we will just drop off our things and head out to dinner."

"Nah, I haven't eaten, I'll go with you," Auston replied and my stomach sunk even lower. I squirmed in my seat and accidently elbowed Alex in the ribs, earning an elbow to the shoulder back.

"What's going on with you?" Alex asked under her breath. "Ever since we got into Canada you've been looking nauseous. Are you nervous about the meeting in a few days?"

"No, well I mean a little, but it's more having to stay at your brother's. I just feel uncomfortable because I've never actually met him and I feel like I'm intruding or something," my whispered words came out in a rush and I felt my cheeks redden, angry at myself for not lying and going along with Alex's idea.

"That's what's been bothering you?" She half snorted, a bit louder this time and Breyana glanced back over her shoulder at us. Alex noticed and lowered her voice again. "Honestly, Y/N, you overreact too much. I promise you that Auston doesn't mind. It was actually his idea that we all stayed at his house. Mom and Dad had planned on getting a hotel because there would be five of us staying and Auston's apartment has only two bedrooms. But he was offended that we would even consider staying anywhere else." Alex rolled her eyes, which I wasn't sure that was directed at me or not.

"Oh," was all I managed to say again. The weight in my stomach lifted slightly, but there was still the factor of meeting him. I don't like first impressions, way too much pressure.

Alex reached out and patted my hand. "Like I said, stop overreacting and overthinking. You are our family, Y/N, and Auston knows that. Even if you haven't met yet. Mom even put up a graduation picture of you in the house. You're even between Auston and me, chronological age. Even more official." She grinned at me and pulled her hand away.

I couldn't help but grin back and glance up at Mrs. Matthews, grateful to have somehow managed to wedge myself into the hearts of everyone in the car and into their beautiful family.

When we were finally within sight of the Toronto skyline I basically climbed into Breyana's lap, causing her to switch spots with me entirely so she could finish the Netflix episode she was watching without me elbowing her in the face again. I pinned myself against the door and my eyes were going a million miles an hour trying to look at everything at once.

"Calm down, Y/N, you will have almost an entire week to get your fill on Toronto," Mr. Matthews laughed, his eyes winking at me in the rearview mirror.

Blood rushed to my cheeks again and I grinned back at him, "I know but I can't help it. It's so beautiful."

"Wait until you see it in the daylight, or at sunrise. You might think you're in a whole new world." Mrs. Matthews added, her own eyes moving across the skyline, illuminated by thousands of lights.
