As dinner went on the more comfortable and at home I felt. With everyone talking and laughing and bickering around me I had never before felt more a part of their family. A twinkle from my bracelet caught my eye and for the thousandth time tonight, I brought my other hand to the charms and couldn't help but ogle at them again.

I heard a laugh and glanced up to see Auston staring at me, a smile playing on his lips.

"You really are obsessed with that thing aren't you?" He asked, his eyes darting down to my wrist and back again.

"Obviously! I can't help it," I said, a pink rising to my cheeks without my permission. "Just look at them!" I dangled my wrist in the air and to my shock Auston reached out and grabbed it, bringing it closer to his face. I had since changed seats with Mrs. Matthews who was in a deep conversation with Mr. Matthews and Alex and Breyana had excused themselves to the bathroom a moment ago.

I felt my body tense up again but just as quickly, the warmth of Auston's hand seemed to seep into me, relaxing me once more.

"Actually, I didn't get a chance to see the other ones," Auston was saying, oblivious to my momentary uncomfortableness. He gently twisted the bracelet around my wrist, getting a good look at all of them. I tried to ignore the warmth of his breath on my fingers as he squinted down at them. "They are quite small aren't they?"

I laugh and shake my head. "I don't think they are too small. Especially the one in the middle." I add, and both of us look at the gold and blue one. It stands out against the four silver ones, yet doesn't take away from them either.

"Yeah," Auston says, turning my wrist once more for no particular reason. "I went a little overboard didn't I?"

"No! Not at all!" I start, "I love it, I really do. Although you didn't have to get me anything. I'm already staying at your house and stealing your family." My arm starts to tire out from holding it in the air for so long, but I do nothing to change that.

"I did have to, you've been a great friend to Alex and Breyana both. Mom raves about you every time she calls. I know a lot more about you than you think. And as for staying at my place," he finally puts my hand back on the table in front of him and my shoulder sings in relief. "It's not a bother, I might not have enough bedrooms but there is more than enough space for everyone."

I blush at the thought out Mrs. Matthews talking about me, just what she has been telling him I may never know. Nodding my head, I pull my hand back to my drink, suddenly aware that Breyana and Alex are back in their seats and I try to recall when they even got back.

"Well, again thank you," I say slowly, my eyes falling onto the bracelet again. "As for the gift, I guess I'll just have to get you something by the end of the week to even things out." I smile at him and take a long drink from my water.

Auston frowns at me from across the table, "No, you don't need to do that."

"Yes, I do," I reply, wiping the water from my lips, his eyes flash down to my mouth and back again. "I may not know you very well but I have a full six days, I think that's plenty of time to get to know you well enough."

Out of the corner of my eye I see Alex and Breyana staring at me, I look their way and see them smirking.

"What?" I ask warily, Auston follows my gaze and raises his eyebrows, glancing between Alex and me.

Alex just shakes her head and busies herself into Mr. and Mrs. Matthews' conversation. I continue to eye her for a moment, the heart sign from the car ride coming back to my mind and I feel my cheeks warm again.

Auston's still staring at me so I shrug my shoulders and take another drink. I study him over the brim of my glass. He fiddles with his napkin, his eyes darting between his parents and siblings faces, he doesn't say a whole lot but I can tell he isn't missing a single word said. When we first got into the restaurant, Mrs. Matthews had made him take off his ridiculous hat and I was extremely grateful. Now his hair was a floppy mess that he kept trying to push back with his hands. Even know he runs a hand through his hair, getting it to lay down like it's supposed to for only a second before it flops right back up again. I bite my lip to keep from laughing right when Auston glances back in my direction, I quickly focus on my water glass again.

"Alright, everyone ready to go?" Mr. Matthews asks, shrugging his coat on.

Thankful for a distraction, I stand and dress as well. I catch Alex's eye and nod for her to walk with me. Alex hesitantly comes to my side as we lead the way back outside.

"I know what you're doing," I mutter, shoving my hands into my pockets as we step into the cold Toronto air, refusing to meet her eyes.

"What am I doing?" Alex asks, stubborn as ever.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about and it will never work, he's not my type and he's your brother, Alex. I don't exactly think your parents would be thrilled." I whisper back quickly, Auston and Breyana closing the space behind us.

Alex lets out a laugh this time and puts a hand on my elbow, pulling me to a stop.

"Y/N, who do you think came up with the idea to begin with?" Alex murmured, a knowing smile on her lips. She pats my elbow once more and continues on her way to the SUV.

I stare after her, my mind in a whirl.

"Wait, what?" I stutter and bounce back to her side but we already made it to the SUV and Alex quickly climbs into the backseat, effectively ending the conversation. Breyana grazes my arm as she passes by, squeezing in next to Alex.

Auston appears at my side and gestures for me to climb in first. I hesitate a moment but then see him shivering, Arizona still in his blood. I scramble up into the middle seat and wait for him to follow, taking our same seating arrangement as the drive here.

As I adjust myself into a more comfortable position my foot kicks a bag, moving it slightly and revealing that there is enough room behind it to push the bag on the seat next to me down onto the floor so I could sit in my own seat. Before I can point it out, Auston nudges the bag I kicked back to where it had been. I look up at him, confused and he meets my gaze, taps my leg once with his finger before looking out the window. His hand resting against the crook of my knee, unlike earlier he doesn't apologize nor does he pull his hand away.

My mind whirls for a moment before I just shake my head and lean back onto the headrest that's technically Auston's but he doesn't seem to mind. I'll just give myself a headache trying to figure out everything that's been said and done the past hour and a half. Instead I let out a small sigh and stare up through the sunroof. The lights of Toronto too bright for me to see the stars above, but I know they are there. They are always there.
