"Oh, thank you so much for this last minute call, Brandy." Katelyn said as she passed me Cope and her bag.
"It's no problem, really, I'm happy to do it."
"Great so I'll be back around seven to pick her up?"
"Sounds good!"
"Alright, bye!"
"Bye." I shut the door behind her as I held Cope on my hip. I took her to the living room where I pulled out some of her toys and spread them out so she could play with them. She picked up a blue stuffed dog and threw it. Then she picked up a rubber ring and started sucking on it. "Oh, are you hungry Copey? Did mama not feed you yet?" I looked through the bag and sure enough there was a jar of food for Cope. I took her to the kitchen and unscrewed the jar. I spooned mouthfuls of the substance into her mouth. She was such an easy baby, I was thankful for that.
Cope yawned soon and murmured something inaudible. She was just learning to talk a little, but more just recognize things other people say.
"Aww, you tired? Is it nap time?" Cope gurgled and I took it as a yes. It was about time she slept anyway. "Alright, baby girl, lets get you to bed."
"No!" She yelled at me. "No nap!" I sighed and picked her up. She started crying hysterically.
"Okay, Copey, if I sing you a song will you go to sleep for me?" She nodded and I wiped away the tears on her reddnning face. "What song?" Cope knew the names of a few songs.
"Wonnerwess." Wonderless.
"Okay, baby." I rocked her in my arms as I sang her the song. She fell asleep quickly and I gently put her down in her crib. She looked so peaceful as she laid asleep under the covers.
I pulled my desk chair over next to her and texted my friend Gabby.
Hey this weekend we should hang out
Okay sounds fun
Come over on Sunday, I won't have to work then
KK cool see you then!
It was almost seven so I cleaned up all of Copeland's toys and stuffed them back in the bag. I heard Katlyn's car pull up outside and I didn't want her to ring the doorbell and wake Cope up so I went to meet her.
"Hey, Brandy! How was she?"
"Hey! She was great she slept almost all day. Come in, I'll go get her." I walked back to the living room and slowly lifted Cope out of the crib, trying not to wake her. I brought her out to Katelyn and handed her Cope.
"Thanks again! I hate to just force her on you so suddenly."
"No really, anytime. I love taking care of her, she's such an easy baby. Are there any other days you need me to baybysit?"
"Uh, well, I know you don't work on sunday, so I don't want to bother you on your day off, but..."
"I'd be happy to take her for you." I said.
"Thank you." She said, sighing. "But I won't be picking her up, her father will be."
"Okay, that's fine." Katlyn paid me for the time I had Cope, and left. I insisted that she didn't have to pay me, she was one of my good friends, but she forced it on me. My parents were basically rich, and when they passed away a few years ago, I inherited all their money. I sold the house though, and bought a much smaller one. It was nice for just one person. After I got out of college, I opened a store called Hottopic to keep me busy during the day. It's been doing well, and I have more money than I know what to do with. I only babysit Cope because I'm friends with Kate, but it's not something I do a lot.
I realized that I had to cancel with Gabby this weekend.
Hey sorry but I actually have to babysit sunday
That's fine I can still go over, I can help you!
Are you sure?
Yeah I love kids
