"Gabby!"
''Hey, Brandy! OH MY GOD WHO IS THIS LITTLE BUBBLE OF CUTENESS AND LOVE??" She asked reaching out to the baby I was holding.
"This is Copeland. Cope can you say hi to Gabby?" Cope looked to the girl who was desperately trying to contain her joy.
"Ayegabba." She said, her words tumbling over themselves.
"Hi baby girl! Oh, can I hold her?" I nodded and handed Cope to Gabby. She snuggled Cope into her neck and looked like she was about to explode.
"Want to go play with her?"
"Yes! Oh my gosh she is the sweetest little girl!" We went back to the living room where Copelands toys were already strewn across the floor. I kneeled down and leaned back against the couch as Gabby set Cope down next to me. I picked up a round block and handed it to Cope.
"Where does this go, Cope?" Cope waddled over to the wooden panel that had shapes cut out of it. She plopped the block into the circlular hole and pointed to it with a big grin on her face.
"Here!" She said. I nodded and opened my arms. She stumbled back over to me and gave be a big (for her anyway) hug.
"That's right Cope! Good job!" She stepped back still looking so proud. "Do you want to watch a movie?"
"Ya!" Cope ran over to the pile of Disney movies and pulled out Finding Nemo and gave it to me. I put it is the DVD player and started it. Cope sat on my lap and Gabby sat next to us cuddled under a blanket. As the movie started, Copeland was fixated on the screen. She got scared when the Barracuda came, and hid her face against my neck. At the end, Cope started laughing.
"What's so funny, Cope?"
"Fiss can't taaawwwkk!" She said. I giggled. This was true. I felt my stomach grumble.
"Are you hungry Cope?" She nodded and Gabby said she was hungry too. We went into the kitchen and I set Cope down in her chair. I looked through the cabinets and found some goldfish. I took those out and found some pizza rolls in the fridge for Gabby and I. As i heated those up I put some goldfish in a bowl. "Here, Cope, fish! Just like in the movie."
"Yay!" She reached into the bowl and put a few fish in the table. I pulled the pizza rolls out of the oven and set them on the table for Gabby and I. We sat down to eat and I noticed all the goldfish were gone from the bowl, but spread out on the table.
"Cope what are you doing?" I asked her. "You're supposed to eat them silly!" She looked up at me with a distraught expression.
"Fiss are fwens not food!" She said. I laughed at how serious she was, but went over to her. I scooped all the fish back into the bowl.
"What do fish do Cope?"
"Swim."
"Exactly." I filled a cup with water and dropped one fish into it. "But is this fish swimming?"
"No."
"Right, because it's a fishie cracker. It's food. You can eat it." She thought for a moment, and then took a handful of fish and shoved them in her mouth. I finished eating and when we were all done, I took Cope into the living room with Gabby.
"Her dad is going to be here to get her soon so we can hang out after." I told Gabby.
"Sing!" Cope yelled.
"What song?"
" 'Old On Till May." Of course she didn't really know what that song was about, but she loved it.
"Alright." As I came to the last verse in the song I saw a black van pull up outside the window. I got Gabby's attention and motioned to the door without breaking the song. "This love was out of control, tell me, where did it go?" I heard the door open, and shut.
"Where did the wuv go?" Cope asked, as I was about to go bring her to her dad.
"Uh, well, it went home."
"Where's it's home?"
"Well, love come from the heart."
"It lives in your heart?" I nodded.
"Yes, and your's."
"But how can it have two homes?"
"Well, Cope, you're going with your daddy right now. Are you going to Dayy's home or Mommy's home?"
"Daddy's."
"But aren't they both your home?"
"Ya."
"And why is that?"
"Because I love Mommy and Daddy."
"So, you see? Home isn't where you are, it's whe you're with the people you love."
"Oh." I set Cope on the ground and took her hand to bring her out front.
"Great song, but wrong band." I heard from behind me. I spun around to see a young man, around my age, leaning against the door frame. I studied his face and I realized it was none other than Kellin Quinn.
"Oh my gosh. You're Copeland's father?" I asked. He nodded and walked towards me.
"Yeah, and you're Brandy, right? Kate told me you were babysitting Cope. So thanks." I was still in shock.
"Yeah, no problem. She's great. Wow, this is really cool!"
"Daddy!" Cope said hugging Kellin.
"Hi baby girl! Did you have fun today?"
"Ya!"
"Good, ready to go home?"
"I already an home."
"What?" Kellin looked to me with a puzzled look, however I was just as confused.
"I love you and Brandy, so I'm home." Cope explained. I giggled. Cope reached up to me with open arms, and I hugged her.
"Aww, I love you to Cope, but you have to go with Daddy now."
"Okay, bye bye."
"Bye bye!" Kellin thanked me again and left with Cope in his arms.
