"It was you, was it not?" - Harlynn Pierce

Chapter XI

A beautiful city rose before me; made from glass and gold. It had an inhuman feel over it and it seemed to glow from the inside; filling me with a peaceful feeling deep within. Angels soared the skies and their laughter could be heard from miles away, a cheerful and musical sound. My eyes automatically found a black-haired angel with six grand golden-white wings, who was laughing and playing - tag maybe? - with a golden angel.

"Watch and learn," a powerful voice calmed inside my head, sounding surprisingly musical and gentle. I looked up and stared into mismatched green eyes.

And then the same city was before me, but it was burning. Angel fought angel; their sharp cries piercing right into my soul. The cries and whispers of their lost souls filled the air. Countless bodies scattered the ground. The only thing that remained was heavenly fire that started and ended it all.

I was inside the grand city now, staring down at an angel who was chained down for all to see – the same black haired angel from before. He was wearing old, dirty rags and he stood completely still while his fellow angels threw all kind of insults his way. The black angel took the insults with what little dignity was left, refusing to break before the judgmental eyes of his kin. The golden angel from before stood on the sidelines, seemingly at loss on what to do.

"Watch and learn," the same voice from before repeated, urgency in his voice. "See the truth."

The ground below the black angel split open and I watched on in horror how he fell with a terrified scream, the fear plain for all to hear, if one would just listen to his screams. Fear for the unknown. The angel fell from the sky like a dangerous lightning-strike, illuminating the entire night sky in his grace. Many others followed the beautiful angel in his fall from grace, like thousands of shooting stars falling down.

I saw how the angel fell from the light and into the darkness. Fear and hatred growing within his very heart. Watching a beautiful being growing so hateful and terrified had something sad and helpless about it; like watching a beautiful flower wither away before your very eyes, unable to do anything.

"Watch and learn. See the truth."

The scenarios changed again and I saw the golden angel from before. The golden angel stood before the gaping hole where the black angel fell from. The golden angel fell to his knees and cried for his friend's loss, silver tears like crystal rolling down his cheeks.

Beep. Beep. My eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. Beep. Beep. My eyelids fluttered open and they immediately shut again upon the harsh light from the lamps above my head. Beep. Beep.

Stop that noise! I mentally yelled. I opened my eyes again and blinked a few times, adjusting to my surroundings.

I stared up at a bare white ceiling. What happened?

Then I remembered. The monsters. The creature of fire and light. The dreams. Where they even dreams? I thought. I recalled the fire and heavy emotions. The hatred and sadness was much too great to be just a dream, or to belong to a human for that matter. I thought about the dark-haired angel I saw. He had something familiar about him. If I could just see his face.

Beep. Beep.

A door opened to my left. "Harlynn?" A voice called out. I turned my head towards the sound and saw a brown-haired guy walk into the unfamiliar room I was in.
