Fourteen
The light wind carried Promise's wild golden mane as she rushed through the plethora of bodies that were sauntering down the sidewalk in slow motion. The gloominess of the atmosphere did nothing for her mood as her green-blue irises took in the darkened sky and the thick gray clouds that accompanied it. She sighed to herself as she finally laid eyes on her destination - Royce Hall. She pushed her feet to move across the asphalt, but her trek became short lived.
"Ughhh..."She shrieked lowly, the grumbling sound tickling the back of her throat. She'd been sideswiped, nearly knocking her and her homemade berry smoothie to the ground. She pinched the center of her forehead as she bit on the inside of her lip. Her day was already starting off wrong, because she'd gotten to a late start – a result of her son's unwillingness to cooperate that morning.
There she stood in the middle of the sidewalk, silently sulking in the midst of her tardiness. Her bag and it's contents lay scattered all over the ground while her smoothie dripped down the sides of her cup onto her fingers. She finally willed herself to lean down and pick up her things before the wind showcased it's ugly wrath. "I'm so sorry."She heard an exasperated velvety male tone. She didn't bother to peer up at the by passer that was obviously the one to bump into her so harshly.
Her eyes continued to scan the ground before they came into contact with the strong pair of hands that'd taken a hold of some of her things. Her eyes followed his tan white legs as he began to stand to his feet. Promise grabbed the last of her papers and started stuffing them into her black cross body bag. "I'm sorry again."He mumbled, passing her papers out to her. She grasped them in her free hand while her orbs suddenly took in the handsome stranger before her.
His face housed a pair of the warmest bluest eyes she'd ever seen. His lips were a salmon pink color overlapping a pair of straight white teeth. His brown facial hair was gruff, yet it remained lightly splayed over both sides of his strong jaw line. His brown hair looked like it'd been styled with his fingers, but still it accentuated his features.
She was taken aback by him when his lips folded into a small warm smile.
He had a boyishly handsome thing going on.
Promise pulled her eyes away from him so she would appear unfazed by his presence. It had been awhile since she'd been caught off guard by the opposite sex's looks – since Zayne. "I was in a rush, and I shouldn't have been going so fast. I could have hurt you."He rambled off as he began to rub at the back of his neck. "It's um... It's okay."She said, still taking him in. The plain white t-shirt that he wore was snug against his chiseled chest. She could nearly see his abs as the way he was standing caused his muscles to unknowingly flex.
"I should... Well, I could get you...."
"No, if you were going to offer me another drink I can assure you it's fine. I should really be going to class."She hurriedly cut him off. The smile grew wider on his face as she guessed he was probably taking in her reddening cheeks. "Okayyy..."He chortled lightly. He allowed his hand to fall away from his neck as he began to saunter away backwards. She couldn't deny herself of the way her eyes fell towards his loose dark wash jeans and the way they were hanging off of his waist. She could feel her cheeks tinting more with the way she kept peering at him and all his glory. He didn't seem to notice though, and for that she was grateful.
She shook her smoothie infested hand, trying to get some of it off. She didn't have anything to clean it up with. She sighed again to herself as she picked up her pace and headed towards the entrance of the brick building. Once pulling the door open, she shuffled down the hall at a hasty pace. She didn't stop to peer into any of the classes as she normally did when she was early.
