Twenty-Three
Alone time.
That was the objective for the day. Promise found herself immersed in her first love – dance. The atmosphere around her was of solace and quietude. The cool air briskly circulating throughout the studio automatically put her in a placid state. Her green-blue irises made contact with the many mirrors precisely scattered around the room.
She leaned downward and fixed her gray legwarmers before turning her frame towards the barre that was adjacent her. She began to stretch her legs, waking up her lower half. She stretched to about two songs before deciding that she was ready to dance. As if on cue, J. Cole's Sparks Will Fly began to spill from the speakers of her iPod dock. She couldn't control her body's movements as she seemed to float around the room – allowing the words to capture her soul. The song itself seemed to speak volumes to her.
Her black pointe shoes barely graced the floor as she did a numerous amount of pirouettes. A smile found its' way across her face as she caught sight of herself in the mirror. She felt like she was in bliss as J.Cole's baritone rippled around the room. She leaped into the air just as the chorus began to rock the room. The small light glowering from the ceiling almost made her feel like she was on stage as it appeared to follow her body's fluent movement.
"It may seem like our fire has been a little burnt out, we're tired..."She sang to herself as she leaned over, her leg slicing the air as she went into a grande battement. The thumping of her pointe shoes becoming one with the sleek wooden floor went unnoticed as she swiveled into a series of turns. The smile that had only been a small one at first grew bigger as she dabbled in her element.
She kept dancing, creating a routine as she went along. It had become clear that she'd abandoned almost everything in such a short period of time. Zayne had her all the way gone. He consumed all of her lately, and she lacked her old life within just a couple of days of them being together so much. It was probably unhealthy. She needed time to herself so when she awoke that morning to find him gone she almost didn't feel too bad. She knew he made it a point to sneak out after their last late-night session together.
He was running and to her dismay, there wasn't much she could do about it, but let his pain run its course.
Just as Jhene Aiko's voice concluded J. Cole's song her gaze shot over to the door. The latch caught as someone proceeded to pull it open. Promise tread across the studio, giving whomever it was a view of her back. She reached down to turn the volume down on her iPod. She then retrieved the bottled water that she'd placed next to the dock. "Hey heffa..."She grinned as she caught sight of the voice. "Best friend!"She shouted while turning on her heels.
The door shut behind Nikita softly as she sauntered across the room. She rolled her chocolate brown orbs with a smirk threatening to form on her full lips. "Don't best friend me when you ain't even thought to hit me up lately."She voiced. Promise playfully pouted and tread over to her. She pulled her into a hug,"I know you missed me, Kita. I missed you too." Nikita jovially pushed Promise off of her.
"Mhm, been around that man for a little while and don't know how to act anymore."
"I know, I kind of been up under him a lot lately."
"Yeah, up under him...on top of him..."Nikita chortled loudly. Promise's face turned red with embarrassment. She couldn't even deny herself of the giggles that followed shortly afterward. She walked right into that one. "Shut up fool. How you been though?"Promise asked just before taking a sip of her water. Nikita sighed as she pushed her feet forward and sat her bag down on the floor. She then slid down the wall and took a seat on the floor. Promise followed suit and flopped down next to her.
