We knew that we were getting close. Jay didn't even have to tell us as she lead us, but just the smell of decay was enough to make us sure of it. The closer we got, the more we could sense fear prickling our skin. I peeked my head a little higher, realizing that we were elevated.

As our trio finally reached the edge of the hill that we were on, we shrank ourselves closer to the ground, so we could go unseen. Ikira was the first to slowly look down, taking in all of the details down below. After a couple minutes she sunk back down, and she turned to us with a annoyed look.

"What's down there?" I whispered quietly, wondering what she saw that disappoint her. She just shook her head and point down, signaling me that I should look for myself. I crawled my way to the spot that she looked in, making sure that I wasn't too visible for unnecessary attention.

When I reached the edge, I focused my eyes on the valley below. I could see it clearly. It was a plain grassy area, not a tree in sight. And in full sight, there was the pond. It wasn't anything large or magnificent as I thought it would be, just a small body of fresh water with a few lilies and cattails scattered around.

But what really got my attention was the small island in the middle. It was a random patch of green grass surrounded by the clear water. Bright pale flowers were bundled together, stretching themselves higher off the ground in an attempt to get sunlight. I stared in awe, these flowers were in fact different from others back home. They had a sort of glow in them.

Sudden movement made me snap from the view. I focused my eyes to the edge of the pond and looked in frustration. I didn't know why I didn't see them in the first place, but as many as five shadow wolves were prowling the water's edge and their pale eyes were moving back and forth.

"He probably knew that we would eventually try to find the place," Ikira spoke softly, continuing to look down and take in all of the details of the area. Jay just grunted in deep thought, probably trying to find a way for us to get in. I looked around, realizing that there was absolutely no cover for us to sneak in closer to the spot.

"So, what's the plan, Chief?" Jay muttered. I sighed, nothing in particular coming into mind. Then, as if the answer was already there, a thought hit me.

"Well, it's not exactly a plan but one thing that we can be sure of is that those things aren't and won't get anywhere near the island. If what Jay says is true, Darcia won't allow them to cross the pond."

"Well no duh, genius. But how is that going to help us?"  Jay whispered shouted, lowering her ears in aggravation. Then, I looked beside her, seeing Ikira's eyes open wide in excitement.

"No, that's it. If we are able to get into the island, then the shadow wolves won't be able to attack us. As long as we are in there, we're safe. All we have to do is find a way to get in the island as sneaky or as fast as possible."

Silence snuck around us as Ikira finished her statement. At first, I tried to process all that she had said, but realizing our dire situation, it was the least that we could do. "Might as well give it a try," I replied in determination.

Jay snuck backwards, standing on all four feet without making it obvious to the enemy. "That is a good plan, but there's something missing." She stopped as if waiting for us to answer. When she didn't get anything, she continued. "We have to find a way to get there in the first place. Its not like the monsters are going to let us in without some trouble."

She does have a point, I thought quietly. I once again looked down at the valley, seeing the shadow wolves hunkered over like sick animals gave me chills.

"Then, the only thing that we can do is make a diversion. There are about half a dozen down there, but as long as we are fast and smart about this, we are free when we cross the water." Both females gave me slightly concerned looks when I said this, but they were already on their feet.
