"How much longer?" A young pup wailed profusely. A few grunts and sighs were expressed from the surrounding individuals from the pack. His mother, a small light brown female, shot her cub an angered look.
"Quit your whining, child. Now it won't be long."
The youngster would not have it, continuing to pester, "But we've been walking forever, and we haven't done anything fun." He swayed from side to side, holding a pouting look on his face.
The whole pack was moving slowly, so I didn't blame the young one for being so impatient and grumpy. It has been almost eight hours or so since we left the camp, and leading ahead were the four Alphas. But after the quarrel that Kiba and I had in front of the entire pack, the last thing I wanted to do was to be anywhere near him.
Nevertheless, I decided to entertain the kid for the sake of those around us. "Yeah, it's been a long and boring trip, huh?" The pup looked in my direction, a little startled from the question. I continued, leaning down and got to his level and spoke softly. "Well, that's because we're going on an adventure. We gonna stay at a human camp for a while." Even though its the dumbest idea that I've ever heard. I swallowed the last part, not wanting to cause anymore trouble.
The little pup then began to puff his little chest which was fluffier than the rest of his fur. "If I were the Alpha, I would fight the monster-thingys myself and protect the pack at all cost." His mother, now putting some attention into the conversation, chuckled lightly.
"Really?" I replied in humored shock. "Now that is the mind of a real leader." He broke into a series of happy yips, bouncing around myself and a few other wolves. I snuck towards him, trotting around in an attempt to catch him.
"Follow me, I'm the greatest alpha of them all." A few other pups that were behind began to emerge around and tussle amongst themselves, some even pleading that they be alpha. I could see that a few females were giving me a gracious thank-you, and I noticed that Blue had joined in with the pups.
Suddenly, I felt a light tug on my shirt. I turned around to see a little female, probably the smallest child that I have ever seen. She had on a baggy blue jacket with shorts and small sneakers. Her eyes were hazel green and straight light brown hair. Her voice was very timid.
"C-can I go play with them?" She asked softly. I gave her a gentle smile and stuck out my hand.
"Sure come here!" She took my hand, and we made our way to the wandering pups. I realized that the pup pack was now right behind the leaders. They gave them their space, but the little male pup was walking behind pretending to be an alpha. I knew that the guys saw them or at least heard them from all the excited barks.
"What's wrong?" I asked her. She looked down on her feet and whispered. "I wanna play the alpha, b-but I think I'm too small." Sweet god, this child is too adorable! I thought to myself.
"Oh, so you think that an Alpha has to be a big, strong guy with muscle?" I mimicked a large male with my chest extended and head held high. The little girl giggled, which caught the attention of the other pups. I then saw that the ears of the leaders ahead were turned towards me.
"Here, let me show you something. See our leader Toboe over there?" The pups turned around and looked at the back of his head, nodding their own heads intently. "Well, he's not so big and tough looking compared to the other guys?"
Toboe slightly turned his head and caught my eye, taking note that I was talking about him. I continued, "And even though he is the smallest and youngest of the leaders, he proved himself worthy to his friends during their adventures looking for Paradise. At first, Kiba, Tsume, and Hige felt that he was a kid and would get himself in trouble easily.
"But one day, while they were traveling and looking for the flower maiden, the guys were under attack by a huge walrus," I got up on my feet and made my hands rise above my head, "and this thing would have killed them if not Toboe was there to jump right onto the monster's eye." The pups were in awe as I continued the story, each walking intently beside me. I finally finished the story giving them a sort of moral lesson, the whole no-person-is-too-small-to-do-big-things type of lesson. They all hurried along back to their mothers, and I then noticed that Blue was making her way closer to me.
"I think a few mothers have you to thank for babysitting," she said, nudging me softly on the shoulder.
I chuckled, "Yeah, they all seemed a bit bored." I slightly looked down at Blue's belly, seeing the enlarged orb that almost looked like it would burst at any minute.
She saw where my eyes were directing at and she placed her arm on top of it, "Well, I would be happy to have you telling stories to my bundles." I nodded my head, and soon we were back walking silently behind the males.
I wonder what it would be like to have a litter of kids... with a mate to care for them and myself.../
