Two Worlds

CHAPTER-1 Monster

"Mom, I'm heading out, take care."

"Sure sweetheart, could you buy some eggs on the way home?"

"They're out already? How much do you even use? We don't have that much money you know".

Her face turned beet red. "A lady's got to eat healthy,you know. Anyways, aren't you a bit late?".

I looked at the clock "Ack! I really am late, well mom, don't work too hard, I'll be going now".

"Don't forget the eggs." she said waving good bye.
I put my shoes on and close the door.

Ever since my dad left mom when I was born, she had a hard time managing the house, which eventually made her stressed. My mom, Laura Fletcher, never actually talked to me about Dad. Thanks to him leaving, we've had to live off with a few pennies we earn from selling homegrown fruits. Well, enough about me, my life is boring as it is, I'm just your average poor girl.

I run as fast as I can to get into class, and I barely make it in time. Sitting in the middle row, third seat, was Barbara and behind her, Darian, her brother- the bullies of our class.

"Well if it isn't the rag girl, you look as ugly as ever." she said laughing with her so-called friends who surrounded her.

I roll my eyes and walk to my desk ignoring her. Just Barbara being Barbara.
I sit next to Alexa, my best friend. The next moment the teacher arrives and the students rush back to their seats.
"Good thing you made it on time." grinned Alexa.
"Looks like luck is on my side today." I grin back.

It was unexpected that me and Alexa would become friends.

At first I used to think she was this unsociable, quiet girl who only bothered with her studies and sat at the corner of the class but after sitting with her, we started getting to know each other. I don't remember much how we became close but it had something to do with Barbara bullying me and Alexa jumping in and saving me. It was brave of her, though she was quiet and often bullied too, she had had the courage to defend me. Ever since that day we both got bullied together and had each other's backs. Well, in a way I guess I should thank the siblings.

School finally ended, today went by pretty fast surprisingly. Nothing much really happened, just the usual science, maths and the other boring subjects.

"Hey, Kyra, I'm gonna go and submit my work to Professor Lee. Wait for me next to the lockers, okay?" says Alex, heading out the class.
I nod. "Sure, make it quick".

I finish the work I had before I pick up my books and head to the lockers. I pack up my bag and swing it across my shoulder. Now I have to just wait for Alexa.
I wait a few minutes, but she was taking too long. I should've just gone with her, the school was almost empty now.

I walk over to Professor Lee's office. On the way I spot Alexa.
"Finally, you know how long I've been-". I noticed she wasn't alone. Barbara was with her, holding the project she was supposed to submit.

"Barbara! What do you think you're doing this time?" I say without trying to make a commotion. Last time the teachers got involved it didn't go so well.
