~KYRA~

Rustling of trees and chirping birds. When I open my eyes I seem to be in a small cottage lying on a bed. The cottage didn't seem to be in a good shape, holes on the roof, smashed windows and broken planks on the floor. As I sit up, which made the bed make a loud creaking noise.

"Luke, she's awake" said a girl about my age. She had blond hair reaching her shoulders and striking blue eyes, on a closer look they seemed to look sad.
"Ada, now that she's up could you please see her out." said a boy with red hair slumped outside the room against the wall.
"Luke, don't be so rude." she said as she walked towards me from the doorway.

"Apologies on behalf of that thick head, his name is Luke and my name is Ada." she says giving me a warm smile.

Even though she smiles it feels off,  both of them seem as though something bad had happened like they lost something or someone.
"I'm Kyra Fletcher, thank you for your hospitality, but, I've bothered you enough and I'll be taking my leave now." I said while getting up from the bed, even though I had no idea where to go.

Ada quickly blocked the doorway " I think you should rest a bit more, and I've got a few questions to ask you". She looks at me with serious eyes.
It's not like I know where I am or where to go so I decide hang around. "...Okay?" I say as I sit back on the bed folding my arms.

"Well, we found you passed out next to the breach and nobody goes over there. So what were you doing there?" asks Ada.
There was no need in hiding it from people, so I decided to tell them "Well...until now I've been living my life as a human th-" .

Before I could complete Luke cut me off entering the room
"Ha I knew it, you really are a human!" exclaimed Luke as he pointed at me.

"Luke wait let her finish". Ada was listening carefully and asked me to continue.

I continued explaining.
"Well in short, it turned out I was a mage...I-I hurt someone and they kicked me out on Pinrith and now I'm here". I look down fiddling with my hands.

They stared at me for a while, then Ada spoke up "Wait...so you're a mage?".

"Yup, atleast that's what they said I was".

Luke crossed his arms "Oh yeah? What element type are you then?".
"Fire, I'm pretty sure that's what came out of my hands". I reply.

Luke didn't seem to believe me.
"Why don't you prove it then?".

"I-I don't know how...and I don't want to...I hurt someone because of those flames...they called me a...m-monster." I stare at my hands as I try to push back the tears that welled up in my eyes.

Ada kneels down infront of me "It's okay, we believe you". She holds my hands "and you're not a monster."
"Tch" Luke rolls his eyes and walks out.

Ada sighs. " I apologize again, he has a bad temper, and we just lost our friend, he was close to us, so he's trying to get over his emotions".

So that's why they seemed sad. "I-I'm sorry I had you bring it up".

"It's okay, besides, I wanted to talk to you about it. Well you guys have something in common, he was banished from Iledrith because he was human". Ada sits down next to me, lets out a deep sigh.
"His name is Reece, we three were good friends since the beginning, we used to have fun and play everyday, we treated each other as siblings. Then the war came, which had taken away the three of our parents. A few years after the war ended the village elder offered us a place to live in the academy, but Reece never awakened his powers so they wouldn't let him enter the academy because he wasn't a mage.
Luke and I couldn't bare to leave him alone so we decided to live in a rundown cottage we found, which is this one right here. Reece tried to force himself to awaken his powers day and night but in the end it was no use."

After taking a deep breath she began again "We took the enrollment test every year, all of us except Reece were accepted, but we didn't want to leave him behind, so we declined. And then last week they asked him to take the enrollment test and if he didn't awaken his powers yet even after 16 years, they would conclude him to be human and banish him."

I clenched my fists, how could people banish someone who lived among them for a long time. "That isn't fair! Why can't humans and mages just get along again!" I scream out loud. "Why cant we all just live together like before".

"Do you want to bring harmony to both of the worlds again?" asks Ada.
"Yes!" I exclaim.
"Well looks like we all have something in common". Ada smiles at me "Well first you got to learn to control your powers, let's get you enrolled at the academy".
