                                                               ~REECE~

It was dark and cold, rain pouring down from above. It's been a few days since I landed up in Pinrith, and I'm still aimlessly wandering the streets, scavenging for food and shelter. I'm no different from a stray cat, well that's okay...I like cats.

I'm sitting under an awning of a shop, slumped down, hugging my knees. I thought about my life in Iledrith. Luke and Ada, I wonder how they were doing without me, but sometimes I wonder if they actually miss me...after all I was only a burden to them. It was all for me that they didn't join the Academy.

I was interrupted from my thoughts as I heard the ringing of chimes, somebody had come out of the shop. It was a woman probably in her mid fourties, her eyes were puffy with dark circles around, her hair tied in a messy bundle. She seemed to be carrying a bag of something fragile, eggs presumably, as she opened up her brown umbrella.

Just before leaving she stared at me for a while before asking "Would you like to stay at my place?".

"Uhh...Sure?".

Sure she was a stranger, who knows maybe she knew I was from Iledrith and was planning to execute me. Well anyways... I would probably die either way, I couldn't live in the cold, moreover it was raining, if she does plan to kill me I can defend myself....I guess. Oh wait....I don't have my sword.

I got up from the ground and dusted the dirt off of my clothes and walked towards her.

She let me under her umbrella leaving her other side exposed to the heavy rain. It felt awkward yet safe and warm, "Is this what it feels like to have a mom" I thought to myself. I couldn't remember much of time I spent with mom, all I can remember is that she would bring a basket of sweet smelling bread and cake, she would wear a warm smile on her face spreading her love to the entire house. She was like the bright sun of the family.

We walked on the empty streets, silence around, only the pounding of the rain on the roof of the umbrella could be heard.

I've learnt a lot about this world of Pinrith in these few days, almost everything in this world is different, the clothes, surroundings, the food, it could take a while to get adjusted living here. The humans aren't as bad as I was told, they seem to be exactly like us, well except they don't have any powers.

After a few left and rights we finally arrived at the house, it was pretty small but bigger than the one I lived used to live in in Iledrith, the walls were covered in creeping vines and were not in a good shape, it was made up bricks which had moss on them. I looked up at the house, the roof wasn't so appealing either, it was covered up with dry leaves. A drop of rain fell in my eye as I gazed at the house.

I rubbed my eye as I followed the lady who grabbed her keys to open the door. She quickly opened the door and led me inside.

"You can leave your boots over here" the lady said pointing to floor. She immediately started walking on.

I took of my brown boots and and placed them gently on the floor and followed behind her. The living room was pretty small, hardly any space to walk, there's a wooden dining table with a vase which had peonies in it.

She stopped and pulled out a chair from the dining table "You must be hungry, have a seat".

Ever since the time she picked me up from the streets she's been expressionless, a shade of dullness on her face, she's like a creepy ghost.....wait a second, no way....I'm thinking too much.

I sat down at the table while the lady headed over to the kitchen. It was still awkward between us....She just suddenly asks me if I want to come her house, she treats me to a meal. I don't even know her name!

"My name is Laura Fletcher, if you were wondering"

She's psychic!!! I knew I couldn't trust her!!

"I'm Reece....Reece Walker" I replied.

She continued preparing the meal while I just sat at the table fidgeting with my hands. I looked around the house. Despite its outer appearance and it being small, it was well decorated and bright. It really had sort of a homely feel to it.

I noticed a few photos hung up on the wall. One of the photos had a baby in it. She was plump and chubby, smiling as she held out her hands smeared with jam. I chuckled to myself, the jam was all over her face!

On another photo was a girl about my age, probably the baby in the previous. She had long golden hair and bright emerald eyes that seemed to be glittering in the sunlight.

"You have a daughter?"
A loud clang filled the room. Guess I shouldn't have asked her that.

"Yes, I do and her name is Kyra" She said as she picked up the spoon from the floor.

"Oh, um, where is she?"

No reply.

After a long waiting of ten minutes she finally replied.

She brought a plate of toasted bread and an egg. She passed the plate over to me and sat down in the chair opposite to where I sat.

Mrs.Fletcher took a deep breath "sh...she was banished, they took her away from me just because she had powers".

"Oh! I just got banished too, umm but from Iledrith....haha" Oh no I'm going crazy, did I just laugh? I gobbled down the food. Hunger is probably taking control of me.

Suddenly, Mrs.Fletcher got up from her chair, creating a loud screeching noise. I jolted. She reached over the table and grabbed me by my collar.

"Where is my daughter! Is she safe and well fed?!" She stared into my eyes, her own eyes wide open. I still had a slice of bread in my mouth as I stared at her dumbfounded.
"I'm sorry." She said as let go of my collar, leaving behind wrinkles. She sat back on her chair, putting her hand on her forehead.

"Umm...well, I'm sorry, I haven't seen your daughter".
Well after that it had become silent, I continued having my meal while she had headed back to the kitchen to clean up.

After dinner she finally spoke up.
"You can sleep in Kyra's room upstairs, sorry if it's messy. And by the way, I'll get you enrolled in a school tomorrow".

"Ahh sure.... w-wait WHAT?! SCHOOL?".
