Someone shook me awake. I looked out the window of the car and saw we had arrived in Austin, Texas.Justin parked in a hotel parking lot and we went inside. It was about eight o'clock at night and we just walked into the lobby. Justin and I went to the desk to get a room while Ian sat in the lounge area.
"Hello Sir. How may I help you?" The man at the desk named Carl asked.
"We need a hotel room for the night." Justin said
"Alright just one night?" The man asked
"Yeah." Justin said.
"That'll be fifty." The man said.
Justin paid and the man gave us our room key. We were room 234. We headed to the elevators and went up to the second floor.
We found our room and opened the door to find two queen sized beds and a couch. I volunteered to sleep on the couch, but Justin insisted that I sleep in one of the beds. I glared at him, but didn't argue.
I sat on my bed for a long time just thinking about how my life had changed suddenly in the last few days. I looked over at Ian on the other bed and saw he was awake as well. I then looked at Justin and saw he had his eyes closed. I looked at the ceiling and hummed to myself. Ian looked over at me and I stopped humming. He shook his head as if he didn't want me to stop. So I started humming again and he hummed along. Eventually we both fell asleep.
It was a dark in the room and all I could see were my parents in chains. I tried to yell to them. I wanted to tell them everything would be okay, but they couldn't hear me. I tried yelling at the top of my lungs, but they still couldn't hear me. A vicious laugh sounded throughout the room and I covered my ears.
The voice then said, "They cannot hear you and they never will."
I started to tear up and the floodgates opened. Tears streamed down my face and the man came into view. He had an axe in his right hand and a dagger in the left.
He laughed and I looked at my parents horrified. He laughed and the axe turned into a sword.
He stabbed my father first. I screamed at him. I wanted to run at the man, but my feet were stuck in place. I yelled for him to stop.
More tears flooded down my face. Then he stabbed my mother. I screamed her name and started to try and get to them. I couldn't move.
I woke up sweating and breathing hard. Ian and Justin were at my bedside looking at me.
"Are you okay?!" Justin and Ian asked at the same time.
"Yea, just a nightmare." I said still breathing hard.
They looked at me and then sat down on the bed. Tears were streaming down my face. They both hugged me as I cried and waited until I calmed down to ask what I dreamt about.
When I finally calmed down the first rays of dawn filtered through the window.
"What did you dream about?" Ian asked
"I saw my parents in chains and I yelled to them. They couldn't hear me and Dr. Mitchell appeared. He stabbed them in front of me and I couldn't move to save them." I said blinking away the tears.
"It's just a nightmare." Justin said.
"I know." I said
"Why don't we go and get breakfast." Ian suggested
We all agreed and headed downstairs to the buffet table and ate breakfast. I had a ham and cheese omelet, Ian had pancakes, and Justin had a bowl of oatmeal.
When we finished eating, we checked out of the hotel and went to the car. Ian and I sat in the back and Justin punched in the coordinates to Madeline's house. Then we drove.
We arrived at Madeline's house in twenty minutes. She lived in an apartment building not far from where we stayed.
Justin let Ian and I out while he went and parked the car. Ian and I headed up to Madeline's floor and knocked on her apartment door. A girl with long black hair and hazel eyes opened the door.
"Hello?" she asked with a smile
"Hey. I'm Tara Yokley, this is Ian Black, and This is Justin." I said. Justin had just appeared by our side.
"Hello. I'm Madeline Bryant. You can call me Maddy" She said.
"Hello Maddy, may we speak to you?" Justin asked
"Sure. Come in." She said gesturing to the door.
"I'm so sorry about the mess. I wasn't expecting company." She said.
"It's fine." Ian said.
"So what did you need to talk to me about?" Maddy asked
"Have you heard of The Counts?" Justin asked
Her eyes grew wide with fear, "What about them?"
"They are looking for us." Ian said
"You mean colors?" She asked
"Yea." I said
"Oh.... this isn't good." Maddy said.
"We know, that's why we're gathering all the colors." Justin said
"How many do we know about?" Maddy asked
"We just need Cameron, Rowan, and Andrew." I replied
"Where are they?" Maddy asked
"Cameron is safe in Phoenix. We need to go get him. Rowan and Andrew have been captured by Dr. Mitchell." Ian said
"That's horrible." Maddy said.
"Will you come with us, Maddy?" I asked
"Of course. I cannot stand by and wait for Dr. Mitchell to come get me." She said.
"So, why are you living on your own?" Justin asked
"I'm twenty." She replied as if Justin asked a stupid question.
He sighed, "Right..."
"So you'll come with us?" I asked
"Yes." Maddy said.
We headed to the car and drove 3 hours and 3 minutes back to Dallas.
We went back to the car rental and returned the car. After that, we headed to the Dallas airport and booked a direct flight to Phoenix, Arizona.
We went through security and then waited by our terminal. Our flight was at Four p.m and when they finally called for us to board, I sighed in relief. I was tired of waiting and I abhorred waiting.
We went inside the airplane and waited. It took us two hours and twenty minutes to get from Dallas to Phoenix.
When we landed, we went to baggage claim and grabbed our backpacks. We headed out and signaled a taxi. We drove to another Hotel and stayed one night in it. We were running out of money to spend. I was worried about that, but I said nothing about it. We got to our room and we slept.
