"Hey, Aubrey, wanna come on a patrol with me?" Cliff called, knocking on the wall to Aubrey's room. She looked up from her comic book, watching Terry walk out of the room with a wagging tail and tongue hanging out. Putting the book down, she followed her dog.
"Really? It's not against the rules?" She blinked, peeping out.
" 'Course not. I'm basically driving around, nothing dangerous in that." Cliff shrugged, looking down at the wired hair rat terrior, who was happily sitting in front of the robot.
"Alright, let me put on my shoes and I'll be down in sec." Aubrey smiled, turning back to her room. Aubrey grabbed her string backpack, pre-packed with her tablet, drawing paper, pencils, and headphones. Quickly slipping on her sneakers and beanie, she ran to the ladder and nearly slid all the way down. Cliff was already waiting in his alt-mode, with Arcee next to him. Aubrey paused. Was Arcee still.. Upset with her?
Ignoring whatever worry she had, she walked up to the two smiling.
"Hey," she nodded at Arcee, opening Cliff's door. But Arcee gave no indication she had heard, so Aubrey just averted her gaze to the floor and slid inside.
"Why don't you take point, Cee?" Cliff chimed, Arcee taking off at a slightly faster pace than him.
"So uh.. Are we cool?" Aubrey asked Cliff, referring to Arcee.
"She just needs to get to know you, kiddo. She'll see how cool you are, don't worry." Cliff assured, quiet enough just for her to hear. Aubrey smiled, but it was a little forced to cover her doubt.
---
"Nothing. Again.." Cliff sighed over the radio.
"Isn't that a good thing?" Arcee asked dryly.
"Sure, but I miss a little action."
"You'd just end up hurting yourself."
"Nuh-uh!"
Aubrey sat back, listening to the two autbots bicker over their com. links. It was almost funny enough for her to laugh at, but laughing at Arcee didn't seem like a good way to get her to warm up to the new team mate. After a few minutes of arguing, Cliff insisted Arcee followed him to some sort of surprise. Arcee was obviously reluctant, but she must've known best that arguing with Cliff when he had already set his mind, was a waste of energy.
Surprisingly enough, Cliff had driven up the same canyon Ratchet and Aubrey had used as their escape from the 'cons a while back. The view was nice, but it was best at sunset and sunrise. No one knew that better than Aubrey, since she had camped out here before with her... Dad..
"Hop on out, kiddo." CliffJumper tore Aubrey away from her thoughts with a happy tone. Aubrey opened the door, walking a few feet away to give Cliff his room to transform. Arcee followed seconds after.
"What's this all about? We should be back at base--"
"Doing what?" Cliff smiled, ignoring Arcee's glare for interrupting her. "We haven't had anything to do in a few years, Arcee. We can spare a few hours."
"I'm with Arcee here, why did we come here of all places?" Aubrey blinked up at her red friend.
"Primus you guys, I'm tryin' to do somethin' nice here! Thought we could all hang out and watch the sunset, but you know whatever, we'll just go back to base." Cliff huffed. Aubrey ran up to him, pushing against his leg with all her weight (even though she knew he barely even felt it).
"Alright alright! It's a good idea, now calm down drama queen! We'll stay 'till sunset. I'm all for it." She laughed, looking expectantly at Arcee.
