Ch.2

As Mavis and I stepped outside the school's huge double doors, the cold chilly air bit my nose and stung my cheeks-- wait what? COLD air? No that's not right! I looked to Mavis puzzled. She had the same confused look on her face. "What the..." I wondered out loud. I checked my phone for confirmation. It was the beginning of June. Summer. The only reason we're still in school is because we had so many snow days. "That's impossible!" Mavis breathed next to me, "Just impossible!" She was astonished. I was terrified. "O.M.G.! The earth has been knocked of its axis! We're going to freeze to death as it floats farther away from the warmth if the sun!" I almost screamed. I began to hyperventilate. "Skyler Ann! Get ahold of you self!" Mavis said grabbing my shoulders, "Stop being superstitious! The earth is fine! I promise." "Okay," I agreed, "Then how is it below freezing during summer!?" "I don't know but the world is fine!" She replied, clearly annoyed with my theory.

We walked to the bus stop together. "Ok Sky I have to go home, but text me?" She made a texting motion with her fingers. "Yeah, yeah, of course." I said. She walked to her bus. I did the same. Normally, I'd have to meet up with grace, my little sister, so we can ride home together but she's sick so i'm on my own. I just kept thinking how strange it was to have chilly winter winds in summer. I got so lost in my deep thoughts that I almost missed my stop. I thanked the bus driver and hopped off the bus. I walked across the lawn to my house. "Winter winds." I whispered to myself, "Just impossible." I said as I opened the door. And I saw the strangest thing yet. Snow. Snow was everywhere. And it was inside my house. "Oh my god!" I dropped my bookbag with a loud crunch as it landed in the wet blanket of snow. "Grace!" I shrieked, "Grace come here!" Apparently it only snowed in the living room, because when my sister stepped around the corner, she screamed and actually fainted. She woke right up when she hit the cold snow. "Oh my god Skyler! What's going on!?" The color drained from her face. "I don't know, but we need to fix it!" We rushed to the closet filled with towels. As we came back with twenty towels, we were shocked to find the snow was gone. "But how!?" She had a pale and confused face. "I don't know!" I whisper-screamed as I gave her a broom and we swept the remaining wetness away. "B-but Sky, h-how?" She stuttered clearly frightened. "I REALLY DO NOT KNOW GRACE!" I screeched. She gasped and recoiled. "Oh my god! Grace I am so sorry! I'm just freaking out a bit right now!" I explained quickly. "It-It's ok-okay." She stammered, "I think i'm gonna go lie down." She was looking pale again. "Okay!" I called after her as she trudged to her room. I plopped down on the couch and pulled my phone out of my backpack to find 24 missed calls from Mavis. I quickly hit the call back button. "OMG! Sky!" Her voice screamed through the phone before it ever even rang. "Hold on Mav, I have to tell you something!" I exclaimed quickly. "Ok but hurry I absolutely have to tell something to you!" She said quickly and gasping for air. Was she out of breath? "Ok so I know you won't believe me but, when I got home from school today, my whole living room was covered in SNOW!" I exclaimed. I heard her gasp at the other end of the phone. "Yours too!?" She breathed. "It snowed in my house too, but when I went to clean it up, it had disappeared. I freaked out and started breathing really heavy." She laughed nervously. "Mavis, what is going on!? I mean chilly winds is one thing, but snow inside, I mean what is happening to us!" I whisper-yell to my phone screen. "I don't know Sky, but let's just act like today never happened okay?" She pleaded. "Okay sure." I agreed for her sake. She hung up and so did I. I was so exhausted from freaking out that I went straight to my room. It was only 4:00 p.m. but as soon as my face hit that pillow, I was out like a light.

*In the dream*

"Skyler," the voice whispered to me. "Skyler." "Who's there?" I called out. I was in a pitch black place. A room maybe? "Skyler, you're special." The whisper came again. I couldn't place the voice. Was it male? Female? I really couldn't tell. "Who's there?!" I panicky called out again.

"Special..." It whispered.

I looked around trying to find where the disembodied voice was coming from. "What do you mean? Why am I special?" I yelled out to no one.

"You and Ma- SKYLER RUN!" The voice began to scream. Suddenly, the room lit up in an orange and yellow flame. Fire. My one greatest fear. "HELP ME!" I screamed trying to run. I stood up but couldn't move. I turned around and noticed I was chained to the wall behind me. "Somebody help me!" I cried out, frightened tears streaming down my face. "SKYLER! RUN!" I heard Mavis scream as I saw her come running in out of thin air. "MAVIS HELP!" I shrieked. She opened her mouth to say something but was cut off by a familiar ring. My phone. (*end of dream*)

My eyes bolted open as I sat up quickly. I was sweating buckets. I felt my face and realized it was wet. I had been crying. A sob racked my body as more salty tears spilled out of my eyes. I reached for my still ringing phone to answer it. Mavis's name was plastered across the screen. I glanced fondly at the picture of Mavis kissing my cheek. We both had on our darkest red lipstick. I slid the answer button and put it to my ear. "H-hello?" I sniffled. "Oh my gosh Skyler!" Mavis sobbed on the other line. "Mav what's wrong?" I asked alarmed. "I- I had a n-night m-mare." She cried. "Mavis I know it's three in the morning, but I am coming over. Now." I stated. "Please!" She sobbed again. I said goodbye and hung up.

I left a note on my pillow explaining where i'd gone incase my parents woke up, and headed for Mavis's house.
