"Ugh!" I groaned as I paced on the side walk outside of Gracetown Middle School. I was so not looking forward to walking through those doors.
"Too bad we can't just skip school." I heard my best friend Mavis say beside me.
"Mavis," I gave her a stern look, "you know we can't."
"C'mon Sky, of course we can, you're just too scared!" She laughed.
I rolled my eyes. "Just cause I'm not willing to skip school, and risking be grounded till I'm thirty, to go do whatever it is we would do, doesn't mean I'm 'too scared.'"
"Sorry! God Skyler, I swear you suck the fun out of everything." She said in a tone of despair.
We walked in the school double doors to another long day of classes and homework.
"Ahhh. The sweet smell of human misery and a flawed education system." Mavis said dramatically. I was pretty sure she read me a quote that went exactly like that once.
"Don't be so dramatic!" I giggle.
"Oh please! I am so not the dramatic one of us!" She laughed.
I smiled back at my best friend. The one who gets the guys. The 'Pretty one'. The one everyone loves. Normally, I would despise whoever this girl was. At first, I did. But something about her was just different. Now, we're best friends. The most unlikely match. You see, i'm the girl who avoids everyone. Who stays out of people's way in the hall. I'm the okay one. She's the perfect one. See what i'm getting at? Yet, we're as inseparable as two girls could be.
We do have our quirks too. Like how even though she popular and pretty, she would never be caught dead in a skirt. And even though I can so rock sweats and a T-shirt, I don't mind dressing up too much. And we both have these little secret desires too. She wants to be a skater, and I want to be a cheerleader. Crazy right? That's why they are 'secret' desires.
Then, the first period bell rang, snapping me out of my day dreaming thoughts.
"Well gotta run Sky. Mr. Hans says if i'm late one more time, i'll have a permanent home in the detention room." Mavis rolled her eyes.
"I better get a move on too, or Mrs. Jacobs will give me another lecture in French. And God knows I can't understand half the things that women says in English!" I imitated Mavis's eye roll dramatically.
She laughed. Then, she was off. And so was I. I made it onto French class right on time.
"Ah. Miss Skyler, how nice of you to join us on time today." Mrs. Jacobs said in her (so fake) French accent. "Good morning class."
"Good morning Mrs. Jacobs." Everyone repeated.
"Okay. Well let's begin. What shall we do today?" She asked not really wanting a reply. "How about a pop quiz!"
After a whole agonizing hour of French, I was the first one out the door. Then I ran smack into Hailey. Ah yes, Hailey. The devil who acts like an angel. Doesn't every story have one of those? Then the main girl and the mean girl become besties in the end? Yeah, well this isn't one of those stories.
She glared at me. I glared right back. Then, with a small hair toss she walked around me, purposely bumping me.
Me and Hailey used to be best friends, but then Mavis came along and we kinda grew apart. She just became mean and nasty. So yeah, that's how that happened.
When the final bell rang, and I began to pack my stuff, Mavis walked up to my locker ready to leave. "Finally! We can leave! Freedom!" She sighed.
"Yeah but too bad it's only Monday." I corrected her.
"Oh don't remind me, Sky!" She groaned.
That's when Aron Signer walk right past us.
"Ahhhhhh." Mavis let out a longing sigh while making goo-goo eyes at Aron's back. "That, Skyler A. Moon, is the only reason I survive Mondays!"
"Oh c'mon Mavis. Let's go before you faint!" I laughed and rolled my eyes while dragging her out the door.
